Measurement Request Report Extensions For Media Independent Handover

US Patent:
7616956, Nov 10, 2009
Filed:
Mar 14, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/374764
Inventors:
Ulises Olvera-Hernandez - Kirkland, CA
Alan Gerald Carlton - Mineola NY, US
Juan Carlos Zuniga - Montreal, CA
Assignee:
InterDigital Technology Corporation - Wilmington DE
International Classification:
H04W 36/00
US Classification:
455436, 455439, 370331
Abstract:
A method for generating a media independent handover (MIH) trigger in a wireless local area network begins by sending a measurement report request message to a measurement entity in the network. The measurement entity takes the measurements and sends a measurement report response message to a medium access control (MAC) function. The MAC function evaluates the measurements and determines whether a handover condition exists, based on the measurements. The MAC function generates a MIH trigger if the handover condition exists.

Abstract:
A system for implementing a media independent handover in a station in a wireless communication system includes a physical sublayer management entity, a medium access control sublayer management entity, a management information base, and a handover policy function. The handover policy function is capable of receiving measurements and system information from the physical sublayer management entity, the medium access control sublayer management entity, and the management information base. The handover policy function is capable of then autonomously determining whether to execute a handover.

Method And System For Integrating Media Independent Handovers

Dec 23, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/317994
Inventors:
Ulises Olvera-Hernandez - Kirkland, CA
Alan Gerald Carlton - Mineola NY, US
Marian Rudolf - Montreal, CA
Assignee:
InterDigital Technology Corporation - Wilmington DE
International Classification:
H04W 4/00
US Classification:
370331, 370332, 370333, 370334, 455436, 455437, 455438, 455439, 455440, 455441, 455442
Abstract:
A method and system for integrating media independent handover (MIH) under IEEE 802. 21 and unlicensed mobile access (UMA) are disclosed. A public land mobile network (PLMN) and an unlicensed mobile access network (UMAN) are concurrently deployed. UMA is supported such that a multi-mode wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) may access the UMAN to receive PLMN services through the UMAN. MIH entities are included both in the WTRU and the UMAN and the MIH entity of the WTRU monitors handover events and information and generates a handover trigger for handover between the PLMN and the UMAN. The MIH entity in the UMAN interacts with the MIH entity of the WTRU to report a remote event, handover information and command.

System And Method For Call Routing And Paging Across Different Types Of Networks

US Patent:
7760704, Jul 20, 2010
Filed:
Aug 31, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/931117
Inventors:
Narayan Parappil Menon - Old Bethpage NY, US
Alan Gerald Carlton - Little Neck NY, US
Assignee:
InterDigital Technology Corporation - Wilmington DE
International Classification:
H04L 12/56
US Classification:
370352, 342457, 370329, 370331, 370351, 370392, 370401, 4554041, 455436, 4554562, 455463, 455518, 726 4
Abstract:
A network architecture uses an Application Server Autonomous Access (ASAA) server which allows paging and call routing across different types of wireless and wireline access networks. The ASAA server provides connectivity between an external voice or data network and a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU). The external voice or data network may be a public switched telephone network (PSTN) or a public data network (PDN), so that the connectivity between the external network and the WTRU is provided through the access networks using data from the ASAA server.

Method, Components And System For Tracking And Controlling End User Privacy

US Patent:
7877494, Jan 25, 2011
Filed:
May 17, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/749769
Inventors:
Alan G. Carlton - Mineola NY, US
Alan Charles Louis Briacon - Poolesville MD, US
Narayan P. Menon - Syosset NY, US
Assignee:
InterDigital Technology Corporation - Wilmington DE
International Classification:
G06F 15/16
US Classification:
709229, 709228
Abstract:
A privacy service is provided for use in protection of user data transferred in a network, including a converged network. The privacy service extracts and measures service elements of a message containing user data. The service elements include an identity element, a trust element, a rights element and a security element. The privacy service performs security by comparing service elements with a user defined privacy policy. The privacy policy may also be based on particular factors relating to the application, context, and time of the message. In another embodiment, the privacy service provides controls that indicate when user data is misappropriated as a result of an infringement of the user defined privacy policy. Further the privacy service provides a means to audit and trace deviations from the privacy policy for the purpose of repudiation, or future defense of security threats.
