Method And Apparatus For Universal Display Of Alphanumeric Data On Radar Displays

US Patent:
5805100, Sep 8, 1998
Filed:
Oct 15, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/732865
Inventors:
Eric Karl Becker - Peoria AZ
Robert John Olson - Peoria AZ
Robert Stebbing Doyle - Glendale AZ
Assignee:
Honeywell Inc.
International Classification:
G01S 1395
US Classification:
342 26
Abstract:
A radar system embeds information into the radar picture data for display on any display device. The radar receiver communicates weather data to a signal processor which generates a weather array. An I/O processor transmits data in the weather array to a display device via a picture bus. Alphanumeric data which is to be embedded into or combined with the weather array is stored in a message array. Font information for each alphanumeric character is stored in a font array. The message array and the font array are combined and translated into a text array which corresponds to the weather array. Prior to transmitting each radial of data to the display device, the I/O processor copies the appropriate radial data from the text array to the weather array thereby causing the desired alphanumeric characters to be displayed on the display device.

System And Method For Gnss To Vhf Converted Data For Instrument Landing System Lookalike

US Patent:
2020027, Aug 27, 2020
Filed:
Feb 25, 2019

G08G 5/00
G01S 19/15
Abstract:
A system comprises a GNSS unit onboard an aircraft, with the GNSS unit operative to generate horizontal and vertical deviation signals. An onboard converter unit is in communication with the GNSS unit, and an onboard radio navigation computer is in communication with the converter unit. The converter unit performs a method for converting the deviation signals to equivalent VHF instrument landing system signals. The method comprises receiving the deviation signals; deriving signal modulations based on the deviation signals to produce localizer and glideslope digital signals; converting the localizer digital signals to a VHF localizer analog signal; converting the glideslope digital signals to a VHF glideslope analog signal; optionally performing an integrity check of the VHF localizer and VHF glideslope analog signals; performing high integrity switching between the VHF localizer/glideslope analog signals, and the deviation signals; and outputting the VHF localizer and VHF glideslope analog signals to the radio navigation computer.
