Treatment Order Processing System Suitable For Pharmacy And Other Use

US Patent:
2008002, Jan 31, 2008
Filed:
Jul 20, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/780691
Inventors:
Alan M. Portnoy - Warwick PA, US
Raymond F. Miller - Lincoln University PA, US
Assignee:
SIEMENS MEDICAL SOLUTIONS USA, INC. - Malvern PA
International Classification:
G06Q 50/00
US Classification:
705 2
Abstract:
A system links a standardized coded diagnosis associated with a medication order with information in a pharmacy information system to supplement medication utilization data. A pharmacy user interface system includes a user interface processor for providing data representing at least one display image supporting user entry of a coded diagnosis identifier for association with an order identifier identifying a medication order record indicating an order for a particular medication to be administered to a particular patient during an inpatient stay in a medical facility. A repository stores information associating multiple order identifiers and associated multiple coded diagnosis identifiers A utilization processor uses the stored repository information and processing data associating multiple order identifiers and associated multiple coded diagnosis identifiers to determine utilization information indicating usage characteristics of a particular medication for treatment of a condition indicated by a particular coded diagnosis.

Patient Care Order And Scanned Document Processing System

US Patent:
2008005, Mar 6, 2008
Filed:
Aug 30, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/847811
Inventors:
Alan M. Portnoy - Warwick PA, US
John Elliott - Woodbury NJ, US
Assignee:
SIEMENS MEDICAL SOLUTIONS USA, INC. - Malvern PA
International Classification:
G06F 7/00
US Classification:
7071041
Abstract:
A pharmacy information and scanned document processing system includes an input processor for receiving data representing a scanned image of a physician prepared order for a medication for a particular patient. At least one repository stores data associating scanned images, patients and electronic records of orders for medication. A data processor uses the at least one repository for associating a first identifier identifying the scanned image with a second identifier identifying a particular patient prior to associating the scanned image with an electronic record of an order for medication for the particular patient. A user interface processor provides data representing at least one display image presenting data indicating the scanned image is associated with a particular patient and in response to user selection of the scanned image, enabling a user to associate a first identifier identifying the scanned image with a second identifier identifying the electronic record of said order for the medication for the particular patient.

Medication Related Task Notification System

US Patent:
2009004, Feb 19, 2009
Filed:
Jul 1, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/165736
Inventors:
Alan M. Portnoy - Warwick PA, US
Deborah Saeger - Allentown PA, US
Assignee:
Siemens Medical Solutions USA, Inc. - Malvern PA
International Classification:
G06Q 50/00
G06Q 10/00
US Classification:
705 2, 705 9
Abstract:
A task management system for informing a clinician of medication administration related tasks to be performed, includes a repository of information. The repository of information associates data identifying multiple different medications with corresponding multiple post-administration alert messages. An individual alert message notifies a clinician of a particular post-administration task to be performed concerning a particular medication following administration of the particular medication to a patient. An input processor receives data indicating the particular medication has been administered to the patient. A workflow processor, in response to received data indicating the particular medication has been administered to the patient, uses the repository for identifying a post-administration task associated with the particular medication and automatically adds data indicating the post-administration task to be performed to a task list of a clinician. A reproduction device presents the post-administration task and task list of the clinician for viewing by a user.

Integrated Medication And Infusion Monitoring System

US Patent:
2010012, May 13, 2010
Filed:
Jul 22, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/507113
Inventors:
Alan M. Portnoy - Warwick PA, US
Deborah A. Saeger - Allentown PA, US
Assignee:
Siemens Medical Solutions USA, Inc. - Malvern PA
International Classification:
G06Q 50/00
G06Q 10/00
G08B 21/00
US Classification:
705 3, 705 8, 340606
Abstract:
A System manages IV pumps so that clinicians automatically receive alerts, decisions, and actions required to maintain a patient IV medication therapy according to a prescribed treatment protocol. An infusion pump monitoring system, includes an acquisition processor for acquiring fluid infusion parameters comprising a patient identifier, infusion fluid identifier and a rate of fluid infusion, for administration of an infusion fluid to a patient at a point of care using an infusion pump. The system also includes a repository of patient medical record information. A fluid infusion monitor uses acquired fluid infusion parameters for automatically searching a patient medical record in the repository for information concerning rate of fluid infusion of a particular infusion fluid and determining if a rate of a previously administered dose of the particular infusion fluid was lower than a rate indicated in the fluid infusion parameters. An interface processor automatically initiates generation of a message indicating a potential adverse reaction to the particular infusion fluid in response to a determination of a lower rate being employed for previously administering the particular infusion fluid.

Medical Emergency Framework

US Patent:
2017010, Apr 13, 2017
Filed:
Dec 22, 2016
Appl. No.:
15/388895
Inventors:
- Kansas City KS, US
Alan Mark Portnoy - Warminster PA, US
International Classification:
G06F 19/00
G06K 7/10
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a framework for facilitating a medical emergency workflow. In accordance with one aspect, a code cart is paired with a computer system. The code cart may include tracking tags attached to the code cart and cart items. The computer system may include a data collector for scanning the tracking tags and an application. The application may be executable by a processor to perform steps including receiving, from the data collector, information associated with the code cart and one or more selected cart items, and updating a medical emergency record based at least in part on the received information.
