Dual Drive Continuously Variable Transmission

US Patent:
6398679, Jun 4, 2002
Filed:
Sep 14, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/395467
Inventors:
Albert W. Brown - Newport Beach CA, 92660
International Classification:
F16H 920
US Classification:
474 35, 474 14, 474 30
Abstract:
A continuously variable transmission has dual driving connections extending between a first shaft and a second shaft. The driving connections generally include a drive pulley, a driven pulley and a belt. The pulleys each comprise a fixed portion and an axially moveable portion. Movement between the two portions changes an effective diameter of the pulley. The moveable portions of the drive pulley are positioned next to one another on the first shaft and the moveable portions are interposed between the fixed portions of the drive pulleys. The fixed portions of the driven pulleys, on the other hand, are interposed between the moveable portions. The driven pulleys are free to rotate relative to the second shaft. A differential is positioned between the fixed portions of the driven pulleys, connects the two fixed portions and transfers the torque from the driven pulleys to the second shaft.

Continuously Variable Transmission And Method Of Transferring Loads In The Same

US Patent:
6421903, Jul 23, 2002
Filed:
Dec 1, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/453354
Inventors:
Albert W. Brown - Newport Beach CA, 92660
International Classification:
B23P 1904
US Classification:
29428, 29434, 29DIG 44, 269 21, 474 18, 474 24
Abstract:
Various configurations of a continuously variable transmission include a drive pulley, a driven pulley and a belt extending therebetween. The drive pulley is generally comprised of a moveable sheave half and a fixed sheave half. The moveable sheave half is freely rotatable relative to the drive shaft and the fixed sheave half. Torque is transferred between the moveable sheave half and the stationary sheave half through the use of a roller bearing and channel race arrangement; however, the roller bearings are freely translatable within the channel races. The continuously variable transmission also features a differential positioned between the two output pulleys and an articulating member positioned between the two input pulleys. These two members operate together to eliminate bucking of the belts caused by differences in driven speeds of the two driven pulleys in a parallel configuration of the variable speed transmission. Additionally, a method of assembling the transmission is also described.

Dual Drive Continuously Variable Transmission

US Patent:
6926632, Aug 9, 2005
Filed:
Oct 25, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/281895
Inventors:
Albert W. Brown - Newport Beach CA, US
International Classification:
F16H009/20
US Classification:
474 35, 474 8
Abstract:
A continuously variable transmission has a first shaft supporting two first pulleys. The two first pulleys each comprise a fixed disk portion and a moveable disk portion whereby axial movement of the moveable disk portions along the first shaft relative to the fixed disk portions changes an effective diameter of the two first pulleys. An articulating mechanism connects the moveable disk portions. The articulating mechanism has a body that is connected to the moveable disk portions. A second shaft extends generally parallel to the first shaft. Two second pulleys are journaled about the second shaft. The two second pulleys each has a fixed disk portion and a moveable disk portion. The two fixed disk portions are rotationally connected to the second shaft through a differential. A pair of belts connect the two second pulleys to the two first pulleys.

In-Series Two Chain Continuously Variable Transmission

US Patent:
7540815, Jun 2, 2009
Filed:
Jan 11, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/032924
Inventors:
Albert W. Brown - Newport Beach CA, US
International Classification:
F16H 9/12
F16H 55/56
US Classification:
474 27, 474 8, 474144, 474199, 474 43
Abstract:
A continuously variable transmission has an input pulley assembly connected to a first transfer pulley assembly with a first chain and a second transfer pulley assembly connected to an output pulley assembly with a second chain. The first transfer pulley assembly and the second transfer pulley assembly shaft a common shuttle disk that moves axially on a countershaft that carries the first and second transfer pulleys. The input pulley assembly and the output pulley assembly are generally axially aligned and a bearing carrier is positioned between the pulleys. A high pressure fluid supply system reduces or eliminates axial loading on the shafts of the transmission.

Manually Operated Electrical Control And Installation Scheme For Electric Hybrid Vehicles

US Patent:
7628236, Dec 8, 2009
Filed:
Jul 27, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/460583
Inventors:
Albert W. Brown - Newport Beach CA, US
International Classification:
B60L 1/02
US Classification:
180 6521, 180 6531
Abstract:
A hybrid vehicle system facilitates operator control over electric power generation and use. The system features a motor/generator that can be mounted to an output of a transmission of the vehicle.

Mechanical Function Control Of Continuously Variable Transmission Hydraulic System

US Patent:
7811188, Oct 12, 2010
Filed:
May 23, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/126586
Inventors:
Albert W. Brown - Newport Beach CA, US
International Classification:
F16H 55/56
F16H 61/06
US Classification:
474 43, 474 8, 474 18, 474 28, 474 29, 475116, 477 45, 477 39, 701 51, 701 67
Abstract:
A simplified continuously variable transmission system control provides a variable clamping force and a differential cylinder pressure manipulation to change sheave ratios. The system control uses two pumps. The first pump provides the variable clamping force. The second pump provides pressure changes to effect ratio changes. The clamping force can be varied based upon operator demand on an associated engine.

A data storage management system comprises a workflow engine, a lifecycle module, and a storage application. The workflow engine is configured to manage a plurality of defined business processes and to execute at least one process step associated with at least one data item. The lifecycle module is configured to detect a change in lifecycle of the at least one data item. The storage application is configured to perform at least one storage action on the data item as a result of the data item reaching a step in a business process, the data item having a change in lifecycle, the data item having a change in metadata, or an event occurring to the data item. Application layer information about data derived from operation of the system allows the system to make more accurate determinations of business value of data and to determine appropriate storage actions to perform on data.
