US Classification:
524 91, 524442, 524445, 524425, 524423, 524413, 524432, 524323, 524394, 524424, 524100, 524359, 524291, 524169, 524230, 524450, 524141, 524449
Abstract:
Compacted additive blends, or polymer stabilization agent blends, can be added during the post-polymerization process to enhance the processability performance of polymers. The addition of certain compaction aids, such as high melting or non-melting metallic silicates and others, increases the resistance to friability of the compacted additive pellets. These compaction aids are non-migratory during the compaction process and after introduction into the polymer resin and thus have no deleterious effects. The additive blend can contain a variety of suitable additives in addition to the compaction aids.

Polymer Compositions

US Patent:
5510413, Apr 23, 1996
Filed:
Dec 20, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/811218
Inventors:
James D. McCullough - Houston TX
Thomas F. Brownscombe - Houston TX
Ananda M. Chatterjee - Houston TX
Assignee:
Shell Polypropylene Company - Houston TX
International Classification:
C08K 334
US Classification:
524450
Abstract:
Polymer compositions comprising. alpha. -olefin polymers and a minor proportion of synthetic basic zeolite are stabilized against the harmful effects of corrosion of metal surfaces when processed through mechanical equipment such as molds and extruders where the composition normally contacts metal surfaces.

Compositions Containing Impact Copolymers Made From A Blend Of A Homopolymer Phase And A Rubber Phase Having A High Ethylene Content

US Patent:
6197886, Mar 6, 2001
Filed:
Oct 24, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/957602
Inventors:
Ananda Mohan Chatterjee - Katy TX
James Douglas McCullough - Houston TX
Assignee:
Union Carbide Chemicals & Plastics Technology Corporation - Danbury CT
International Classification:
C08L 2312
C08L 2316
US Classification:
525240
Abstract:
The present invention relates to compositions containing impact copolymer compositions that are a blend of a propylene polymer phase and a rubber phase in which the ethylene content of the rubber phase is between about 75 to about 95% by weight. The rubber content of the impact copolymer composition ranges between about 35% by weight to about 60% by weight. The crystallinity of the high ethylene-content rubber phase provides overall improvement in film properties and also balance of film tensile properties in the machine and transverse directions. Compared to traditional impact copolymer compositions having a low ethylene content-rubber phase, the inventive copolymers have significantly enhanced melting and crystallization peaks due to polyethylene-like crystallinity in the rubber phase.

Polymer Compositions And Cast Films

US Patent:
5948839, Sep 7, 1999
Filed:
May 28, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/864161
Inventors:
Ananda M. Chatterjee - Katy TX
Assignee:
Union Carbide Chemicals & Plastics Technology Corporation - Danbury CT
International Classification:
C08J 515
US Classification:
524108
Abstract:
Polypropylene impact copolymer compositions are provided which contain a homopolymer phase of predominantly homopolymeric polypropylene, a copolymer phase of copolymerized ethylene and propylene, and a nucleating agent. The inventive compositions have a rubber content (Fc) in the range of 25 to 45% by weight, a crystallization temperature in the range of 122 to 132. degree. C. , a melt flow in the range of about 7 to about 60 dg/min, and a ratio of the intrinsic viscosity of the copolymer phase to the intrinsic viscosity of the homopolymer phase of 1. 4 to about 1. 9. The polypropylene impact copolymer compositions may be used to form cast films which preferably are soft, quiet, and suitable for use in products to be used next to the skin, such as diapers, adult incontinence pads and feminine hygiene products.
