Cargo Sensing System

US Patent:
7421112, Sep 2, 2008
Filed:
Mar 12, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/800342
Inventors:
Andrew J. Calver - Clifton Park NY, US
Rick Cobello - Middlegrove NY, US
Kurtis G. McKenney - Schenectady NY, US
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
G06K 9/00
US Classification:
382154, 382143, 382203, 348148, 348152
Abstract:
A cargo sensing system is configured to determine if cargo is present within a container. In one implementation, the cargo sensing system senses lines within an image of a cargo space. The lines may be straight, curved or otherwise configured, and are evaluated for indications of the presence of cargo within the cargo space. In a first implementation of the cargo sensing system, the lines within the cargo space are formed by a laser tracing over a predetermined projection pattern. In a second implementation of the cargo sensing system, the lines sensed are formed by intersection of planes defining the cargo space.

Abstract:
A technique is provided for tracking and/or monitoring an inventory within one or more assets. The technique includes activating a plurality of antennas on each of the one or more assets in turn for a specified period of time, and receiving a response from an RFID tag attached to the inventory through the plurality of antennas located on an asset having the inventory along with a positional information of the asset having the inventory.

Self Cooling Piezo Actuator For High Temperature Applications

US Patent:
2004014, Jul 22, 2004
Filed:
Oct 16, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/271454
Inventors:
Charles Seeley - Niskayuna NY, US
Todd Wetzel - Niskayuna NY, US
Andrew Calver - Clifton Park NY, US
Jeffrey Fortin - Niskayuna NY, US
Assignee:
Lockheed Martin Corporation - Bethesda MD
International Classification:
H01L041/053
US Classification:
310/348000
Abstract:
A piezoelectric actuator and a method of assembling and employing a piezoelectric actuator. This method comprises the steps of positioning an expandable piezoelectric material inside a case, and enclosing a vaporizable liquid in the case. The case is positioned in a high temperature environment; and the liquid vaporizes, in that high temperature environment, over a given period of time, to maintain the temperature of the piezoelectric material below a given value for said period of time. Preferably, the vaporizing liquid maintains the temperature of the piezoelectric material substantially constant over that period of time. Also, preferably the case is provided with a pressure responsive valve that opens and closes, in the high temperature environment, to expose the liquid to that environment and control the vaporization of the liquid to maintain the temperature of the piezoelectric material substantially constant over the period of time.
