Endoluminal Prosthesis Placing Method

US Patent:
6488700, Dec 3, 2002
Filed:
Apr 4, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/826204
Inventors:
Katherine J. Klumb - Los Altos CA
Thomas J. Fogarty - Portola Valley CA
Kirti P. Kamdar - Sunnyvale CA
Bradley B. Hill - Portola Valley CA
Assignee:
Vascular Architects, Inc. - San Jose CA
International Classification:
A61F 206
US Classification:
623 112, 623 111, 623 122
Abstract:
A catheter assembly includes a coiled endoluminal prosthesis ( ) and a catheter ( ) having at least first and second telescoping shafts ( ). The prosthesis is releasably engaged to the distal ends ( ) of the telescoping shafts. The prosthesis is capable of assuming a second, expanded diameter state from a first, reduced diameter state. The length and number of turns ( ) of the coiled prosthesis can be changed by the relative translation and rotation of the shafts. The catheter assembly is especially useful for placing a coiled stent graft ( ), in which one turn ( ) of the prosthesis has a greater pitch than the adjacent turns, at the intersection ( ) of a bifurcation within a blood vessel ( ). Remotely viewable marker elements ( ) may be used and include a marker element ( A, ) configured to indicate orientation as well as axial position of the prosthesis. The ends of the prosthesis may be substantially less stiff than the remainder of the prosthesis and/or shaped to help prevent tissue trauma.

Methods And Systems For Vein Harvesting

US Patent:
6551314, Apr 22, 2003
Filed:
Apr 3, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/116730
Inventors:
Bradley Hill - Woodside CA
Neil Holmbren - Alameda CA
Bruce Modesitt - San Carlos CA
Assignee:
Thomas J. Fogarty - Portola Valley CA
International Classification:
A61B 1818
US Classification:
606 45
Abstract:
Veins are removed using a pull catheter introduced over a guidewire which extends between first and second percutaneous access points. Optionally, a side branch management tool including an excision device and/or a viewing scope can be advanced over the same guidewire in the direction opposite to that of the pull catheter. In that way, as the pull catheter inverts the vein being removed, side branches can be selectively viewed and/or severed using the side branch management tool.

Endoluminal Prosthesis And Tissue Separation Condition Treatment Method

US Patent:
6572648, Jun 3, 2003
Filed:
Jun 30, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/608281
Inventors:
Katherine J. Klumb - Los Altos CA
Thomas J. Fogarty - Portola Valley CA
Kirti P. Kamdar - Sunnyvale CA
Bradley B. Hill - Portola Valley CA
Assignee:
Vascular Architects, Inc. - San Jose CA
International Classification:
A61F 206
US Classification:
623 115, 623 122
Abstract:
An endoluminal prosthesis includes a coiled body and a graft material covering at least part of the coiled body to create a coiled stent graft. The average stent graft diameter to turns width ratio may be about 0. 8 to 1 to about 2. 4 to 1 when expanded.

Method And Device For Maintaining A Seal

US Patent:
6602240, Aug 5, 2003
Filed:
Feb 15, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/784871
Inventors:
George D. Hermann - Portola Valley CA
Bradley Hill - Woodside CA
Thomas Howell - Palo Alto CA
David Willis - Palo Alto CA
Neil Holmgren - Alameda CA
Joshua Whittemore - Portola Valley CA
Assignee:
Thomas J. Fogarty - Portola Valley CA
International Classification:
A61M 3100
US Classification:
604500, 604 34, 60416706, 60416407, 60416502, 604171, 251 4
Abstract:
According to the present invention, improved methods and apparatus are provided for regaining hemostasis or otherwise minimizing leakage during endoluminal, surgical or percutaneous intraluminal procedures, and for providing a seal during laparoscopic surgical procedures where there is leakage of the CO insufflation, when the primary means of hemostasis or pneumatic CO seal is compromised or fails. More particularly the present invention relates to devices having a front hub and a rear hub, one or other of which is adapted to retain a compression seal such that when the front and rear hub are matingly engaged, axial and radial pressure is applied to the compression plug and any devices located therebetween, thereby achieving a seal. The compression device can be applied while a guidewire or additional devices remain within the leaking sheath or trocar, thereby allowing the physician to maintain hemostasis or adequate CO insufflation, without exchanging the introducer sheath or laparoscopic port.

Expandable Coiled Endoluminal Prosthesis

US Patent:
6645237, Nov 11, 2003
Filed:
Sep 22, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/400955
Inventors:
Katherine J. Klumb - Los Altos CA
Thomas J. Fogarty - Portola Valley CA
Kirti P. Kamdar - Sunnyvale CA
Bradley B. Hill - Portola Valley CA
Assignee:
Vascular Architects, Inc. - San Jose CA
International Classification:
A61F 206
US Classification:
623 111, 623 122
Abstract:
A coiled stent ( ) has a coiled stent body with a main body portion ( ) and end portions ( ). The end portions may be substantially less stiff than the body portion to help prevent tissue trauma. A graft material ( ) may be used to cover at least the main body portion to create a coiled stent graft ( ) in which adjacent turns ( ) have gaps defined therebetween to create a generally helical gap ( ). The coiled stent may have side elements ( ) separated by connector elements ( ) and be placeable in a contracted, reduced diameter state and in a relaxed, expanded diameter state. The connector elements are preferably generally parallel to the stent axis when placed in the contracted, reduced-diameter state, typically tightly wrapped around a placement catheter ( ).

Methods And Systems For Vein Harvesting And Fistula Creation

US Patent:
7074220, Jul 11, 2006
Filed:
Feb 12, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/366535
Inventors:
Bradley Hill - Woodside CA, US

Bruce Modesitt - San Carlos CA, US
International Classification:
A61B 18/18
