Plastic Card Reorienting Mechanism And Interchangeable Input Hopper

US Patent:
2005010, May 19, 2005
Filed:
Nov 17, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/716579
Inventors:
Eric Stender - Champlin MN, US
Peter Schuller - Coon Rapids MN, US
Bryan Hoeve - Farmington MN, US
David Wickstrom - Bloomington MN, US
Mark Sobania - Ham Lake MN, US
Assignee:
DATACARD CORPORATION - MINNETONKA MN
International Classification:
B65H029/00
US Classification:
271185000
Abstract:
A card reorienting mechanism and an input hopper of plastic card processing equipment, for example a desktop plastic card printer. The card reorienting mechanism is a modular unit that permits the entire mechanism to be inserted or removed as a single unit from the printer. In addition, the input hopper is designed as an interchangeable system that permits alteration in the card capacity of the hopper.

Indent Printing Apparatus

US Patent:
2008021, Sep 11, 2008
Filed:
Mar 6, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/682570
Inventors:
Lyle BUNGERT - Lakeville MN, US
David Alvig - Richfield MN, US
Peter Schuller - Elko MN, US
Bryan Hoeve - Farmington MN, US
Jerry Steinbach - Champlin MN, US
Assignee:
DataCard Corporation - Minnetonka MN
International Classification:
B41J 13/12
US Classification:
400521
Abstract:
An indent printing apparatus that is capable of indent printing on both sides of a document. A desktop card printer that uses the indent printing apparatus, a method of personalizing a document in the printer, and a ribbon cartridge used with the indent printing apparatus are also disclosed. The indent printing apparatus has first and second indenting mechanisms and uses first and second indent printing ribbon cartridges to enable indent printing on both side surfaces of the document.

Collapsible Ribbon Supply Cartridge

US Patent:
2020009, Mar 26, 2020
Filed:
Sep 20, 2019
Appl. No.:
16/577402
Inventors:
- Shakopee MN, US
Bryan D. HOEVE - Shakopee MN, US
International Classification:
B41J 33/24
B41J 32/00
B41M 5/00
Abstract:
A ribbon supply cartridge for use in a card personalization machine. The ribbon supply cartridge is manually adjustable by a user before installation into the card personalization machine from a first, collapsed (or pre-use) configuration to a second, extended or open (or use) configuration. When the ribbon supply cartridge is adjusted from the first configuration to the second configuration, a distance between the supply and take-up is increased. The first, collapsed configuration may be useful for packaging or shipping the ribbon supply cartridge whereby the collapsed configuration reduces the size of the packaging or shipping box containing the ribbon supply cartridge. When the ribbon supply cartridge is to be used, the user can manually adjust the ribbon supply cartridge to the open configuration and then install the ribbon supply cartridge in the card personalization machine.

Printhead Guard

US Patent:
2020007, Mar 12, 2020
Filed:
Sep 11, 2019
Appl. No.:
16/567734
Inventors:
- Shakopee MN, US
Bryan HOEVE - Shakopee MN, US
Donald GALLES - Shakopee MN, US
International Classification:
B41J 29/12
B41J 3/28
Abstract:
A plastic card printer that is provided with a printhead guard that is movable between a covering position, where the printhead guard covers one or more sensitive portions of a printhead of the plastic card printer, and a non-covering position, where the printhead guard does not cover the one or more sensitive portions of the printhead thereby allowing the printhead to perform a printing function on a plastic card. The printhead guard can be at the covering position when the printhead is at a non-printing position, for example during servicing of the card printer, to protect the one or more sensitive elements when the printhead is at the non-printing position, and the printhead guard can be at the non-covering position when the printhead is at a printing position where the printhead is ready to perform printing.

Ribbon Supply Mounting

US Patent:
2017013, May 18, 2017
Filed:
Nov 11, 2016
Appl. No.:
15/349719
Inventors:
- Shakopee MN, US
James A. KALTHOFF - Shakopee MN, US
Alexander K. ZABOROWSKI - Shakopee MN, US
Bryan D. HOEVE - Shakopee MN, US
International Classification:
B41J 33/16
B65H 75/18
B65H 75/10
Abstract:
A mounting of a ribbon supply on a re-useable cartridge is described where the mounting is designed so that the supply friction, supply and control of the ribbon supply are substantially independent of the cartridge. When the supply rolls are initially mounted on the cartridge, the supply rolls are frictionally engaged with the cartridge to reduce the tendency for the supply rolls to rotate or move prior to being loaded into the printer, which would loosen the ribbon material by unwinding, thereby reducing slack in the ribbon material. When the cartridge is loaded into a card personalization machine, features on the card personalization machine automatically reduce the frictional engagement between the supply rolls and the cartridge, permitting the supply rolls to rotate substantially freely relative to the cartridge so that the supply friction, supply and control are substantially independent of the cartridge.
