Optically Clear Uv And Hydrolysis Resistant Polyester Film

US Patent:
2011030, Dec 15, 2011
Filed:
Jun 9, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/156582
Inventors:
Carlos HINTON - West Warwick RI, US
Nao Yokota - Saunderstown RI, US
Hirokazu Tajima - Osaka, JP
Roberto Siu - Providence RI, US
Assignee:
Toray Plastics (America), Inc. Lumirror Division - N. Kingstown RI
International Classification:
B32B 27/36
B29C 47/00
F21V 9/06
US Classification:
428480, 252589, 26417717
Abstract:
Biaxially oriented polyester films including polyester polymer, a carbodiimide hydrolysis stabilizer, and a UV absorber are described. The polyester films have a carboxyl end group concentration of 5-20 equivalents per ton, and a haze value of 2% or less. The films exhibit superior transparency and possess stable light transmission characteristics. Methods of making the films and articles produced from the films are also described.

Multilayer Oriented Polyester Film With Anti-Static Property For Molding Processes

US Patent:
2013029, Nov 7, 2013
Filed:
Jun 29, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/538208
Inventors:
Carlos E. HINTON - West Warwick RI, US
Nao Yokota - North Kingstown RI, US
Jan Moritz - Bristol RI, US
Assignee:
TORAY PLASTICS (AMERICA), INC. - N. Kingstown RI
International Classification:
A21C 11/00
B29C 33/40
US Classification:
425470, 2642101
Abstract:
Described are methods for producing biaxially oriented thermoplastic crystallizable films, such as polyester terephthalate (PET) films, that are easy to handle, have at least one surface that can produce high quality finishes in In-Mold Decoration processes (IMD), and have anti-static properties. The static dissipation properties of the film facilitate the manufacture of IMD parts by reducing buildup of debris in the mold and reducing the risk of fire during processing.

Extrudable Vinylidene Chloride Polymer Compositions

US Patent:
5986003, Nov 16, 1999
Filed:
Oct 30, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/961176
Inventors:
Eric K. C. Lee - Midland MI
Steven R. Jenkins - Clare MI
Martin F. Debney - Midland MI
Carlos E. Hinton - Midland MI
Assignee:
The Dow Chemical Company - Midland MI
International Classification:
C08L 8300
US Classification:
525104
Abstract:
A vinylidene chloride polymer composition comprising a vinylidene chloride polymer and a concentrate comprising a blend of a high viscosity, high molecular weight silicone polymer and a carrier polymer, e. g. high density polyethylene, the concentrate being present in an amount sufficient to improve the extrudability of the vinylidene chloride polymer. The vinylidene chloride composition can be fabricated into flexible and rigid containers, both in monolayer and multilayer structures for use in the preservation of food, drink medicine and other perishables.

Bipolar Plates For Electrochemical Cells

US Patent:
6103413, Aug 15, 2000
Filed:
May 21, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/082931
Inventors:
Carlos E. Hinton - Midland MI
Carey L. Scortichini - Midland MI
Robert D. Mussell - Midland MI
Assignee:
The Dow Chemical Company - Midland MI
International Classification:
H01M 648
H01M 824
US Classification:
429 32
Abstract:
A bipolar separator plate for two electrochemical cells connected in series, the plate having two layers of a porous electronically conductive material having positioned therebetween a solid layer of a polymeric material having dispersed therein at least 1 percent by weight of a conductive filler, wherein the plate has an area resistivity of less than 1 ohm-cm. sup. 2, and wherein the solid layer has a permeability of less than 50. mu. Darcy (. mu. D).
