Fire Sprinkler Piping System Fitting

US Patent:
6540261, Apr 1, 2003
Filed:
Nov 28, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/724167
Inventors:
Robert W. Painter - Trinity AL
Stephen J. Meyer - Malvern PA
Carmine L. Schiavone - Schwenksville PA
Michael W. Whited - Huntsville AL
Kevin W. Pressnell - Athens AL
Assignee:
Central Sprinkler Company - Lansdale PA
International Classification:
F16L 4100
US Classification:
28513311, 2851334, 2851335, 169 5, 169 37
Abstract:
A fire sprinkler piping system fitting including a polymeric body having at least a first tubular branch, a second tubular branch, and a third tubular branch. Each of the first, second and third tubular branches extend outwardly from a common junction. The first and second tubular branches are collinear and the third tubular branch is generally perpendicular to the first and second tubular branches. Each of the first, second and third tubular branches have a distal end opposite from the common junction. The fitting includes pair of internally threaded metal inserts. Each insert is at least partially molded into the distal end of a separate one of a first and second tubular branches. Each of the internally threaded inserts has a distal outer surface facing generally away from the common junction. The distal outer surfaces of the pair of internal threaded metal inserts is spaced apart a distance of between three inches and four inches. The distal end of the third tubular branch has a smooth internal bore to slidingly receive a smooth outer end of a length of pipe.

Methods And Systems For Detecting And Sealing Dry Fit Connections In A Piping Assembly

US Patent:
2012025, Oct 11, 2012
Filed:
Jan 10, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/443678
Inventors:
James E. Golinveaux - N. Kingstown RI, US
Carmine L. Schiavone - Schwenksville PA, US
John A. Amarello - Fairhaven MA, US
Assignee:
TYCO FIRE JPRODUCTS LP - LANSDALE PA
International Classification:
G01M 3/08
US Classification:
73 491
Abstract:
Systems and methods for evaluating a piping system for an improperly assembled fluid tight connection. Provided is a preferred joint assembly unable to hold fluid pressure in either one of a dry fit connection and partial seal connection. The joint assembly includes a coupler to identify a leak. More specifically, the coupler includes a substantially tubular wall portion having an outer surface, an inner surface and a channel disposed along one of the inner and outer surfaces. The channel has a first configuration for carrying a fluid between an interior of the piping system and an exterior of a piping system, and a second configuration to prevent fluid from being carried between the interior and the exterior of the piping system. The channel is further preferably convertible from the first configuration to the second configuration in the presence of a minimum amount of sealant material.

Remotely Monitored Tamper Bar For A Backflow Preventer

US Patent:
5520207, May 28, 1996
Filed:
May 31, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/251457
Inventors:
Richard F. Newsome - Horsham PA
Gary Peterson - Huntington Beach CA
Carmine Schiavone - Royersford PA
Assignee:
Central Sprinkler Corporation - Lansdale PA
International Classification:
F16K 3700
US Classification:
137 15
Abstract:
A remotely monitored tamper bar apparatus for monitoring two shut-off valve handles of a water supply backflow preventer includes an elongate U-shaped member having a base and two side legs. The base and two side legs form a channel for receiving the handles and to prevent movement of the handles. A switch is operatively associated with the U-shaped member. The switch has a first position which maintains the handles within the channel and a second position which allows the U-shaped member to be removed from the handles such that movement of the handles is permitted. The switch provides a signal for remotely monitoring whether the switch is in the first position or the second position.
