Reactor And Process For Converting Alkanes To Alkenes

US Patent:
7074977, Jul 11, 2006
Filed:
Dec 9, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/731748
Inventors:
Charles R. Rapier - Billings MT, US
Daniel P. Holderman - Spring TX, US
Zhen Chen - Bend OR, US
Shang Y. Chen - Edmond OK, US
Steven R. McDonald - Greensboro NC, US
Lisa M. Budin - Ponca City OK, US
Sriram Ramani - Ponca City OK, US
Joe D. Allison - Ponca City OK, US
Assignee:
ConocoPhillips Company - Houston TX
International Classification:
C07C 5/333
US Classification:
585324, 585658, 585652, 585653
Abstract:
The invention relates to a reactor comprising two reaction zones and processes for the production of alkenes from alkanes. A first reaction zone includes a combustion catalyst, and a second reaction zone comprises a heating zone in thermal contact with the first reaction zone. One process comprises generating heat and an effluent by the combustion of a fuel with oxygen in the first reaction zone; passing an alkane feed through the heating zone of the second reaction zone such that the alkane feed absorbs a sufficient amount of the heat generated in the first reaction zone to initiate the conversion of alkanes to alkenes in the second reaction zone. In other embodiments, the effluent comprises oxygen, and the second reaction zone excludes a catalyst; alternatively, the effluent is substantially free of oxygen, and the second reaction zone comprises a supplemental oxygen feed and may or may not include a catalyst.

Method And System For Converting Non-Methane Hydrocarbons To Recover Hydrogen Gas And/Or Methane Gas Therefrom

US Patent:
2023000, Jan 5, 2023
Filed:
Jul 7, 2021
Appl. No.:
17/763912
Inventors:
- Chandler AZ, US
Dean C. Hoaglan - Gilbert AZ, US
Scott V. Johnson - Scottsdale AZ, US
Charles Robert Rapier - Chandler AZ, US
Karen Lizeth Delfin - Chandler AZ, US
International Classification:
C01B 3/38
C01B 3/34
C01B 3/26
B01J 19/24
B01D 53/26
C02F 1/20
Abstract:
The disclosure relates to methods, systems, and apparatus arranged and designed for converting non-methane hydrocarbon gases into multiple product gas streams including a predominately hydrogen gas stream and a predominately methane gas steam. Hydrocarbon gas streams are reformed, cracked, or converted into a synthesis gas stream and methane gas stream by receiving a volume of flare gas or other hydrocarbon liquid or gas feed, where the volume of hydrocarbon feed includes a volume of methane and volume of nonmethane hydrocarbons. The hydrogen contained in the syngas may be separated into a pure hydrogen gas stream. A corresponding gas conversion system can include a super heater to provide a hydrocarbon feed/steam mixture, a heavy hydrocarbon reactor for synthesis gas formation, and a hydrogen separator to recover the hydrogen portion of the synthesis gas.

Biomass Processing Devices, Systems, And Methods

US Patent:
2020004, Feb 6, 2020
Filed:
Aug 2, 2019
Appl. No.:
16/530560
Inventors:
- Millinocket ME, US
James M. Colthart - Boca Grande FL, US
Paul F. Bryan - Pinole CA, US
Charles Robert Rapier - Chandler AZ, US
International Classification:
C10B 7/10
C10J 3/66
C10J 3/62
C10G 45/02
C10B 53/02
C10B 27/06
Abstract:
Biomass processing devices, systems and methods used to convert biomass to, for example, liquid hydrocarbons, renewable chemicals, and/or composites are described. The biomass processing system can include a pyrolysis device, a hydroprocessor and a gasifier. Biomass, such as wood chips, is fed into the pyrolysis device to produce char and pyrolysis vapors. Pyrolysis vapors are processed in the hydroprocessor, such as a deoxygenation device, to produce hydrocarbons, light gas, and water. Water and char produced by the system can be used in the gasifier to produce carbon monoxide and hydrogen, which may be recycled back to the pyrolysis device and/or hydroprocessor.
