Christopher Burg / Bio In 1979, after graduating from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, I began my “design” career doing production and light housekeeping in George Tscherny’s New York design office. Though my housekeeping skills were finely honed after only a brief few months, I was driven to seek new challenges. Thus my next move was to Anthony Russell, Inc., a design firm also in Manhattan, where I was hired as a junior designer in the fall of 1980. This position required far less in the way of janitorial responsibilities, and began a very happy three years learning about printing, clients, deadlines, budgets, and even some design along the way. After several years in New York, I decided to return to San Francisco where I was eventually hired by PCW Communications as the Associate Art Director for both PC World and Macworld magazines. Following a meteoric rise to Art Director for Macworld, I spent nearly four very rewarding years learning about printing, circulation strategies, single-copy sales, budgets, computer technology, expense reports, and some art direction along the way. Since 1989 I’ve been managing my own business, producing collateral, magazines, newsletters and packaging for such clients as, Adobe, Autodesk, The Bay School, Birkenstock, California Pacific Medical Center, Intel , HarperCollins, Marin Academy, McKesson, Oracle, and UCSF. I am continuing to learn more about printing, sales taxes, corporate taxes, computer technology, and...
