Reconfigurable Aircraft Stick Control And Method For Connecting And Removing Stick Control From Aircraft Simulator

US Patent:
5470232, Nov 28, 1995
Filed:
Sep 29, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/129729
Inventors:
Thomas M. Kelso - Great Mills MD
John K. Kotch - California MD
Damon J. Boyle - Leonardtown MD
David H. Meiser - Lexington Park MD
William P. Flaherty - Leonardtown MD
Bernard W. Baird - Avenue MD
Assignee:
The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Navy - Washington DC
International Classification:
G09B 928
US Classification:
434 45
Abstract:
A reconfigurable aircraft stick control for an aircraft simulator that enes pitch and roll to be simulated. It includes a generic base that has mounting means that are adapted to be connected to a stick control of the type having a standard production grip as well as a stick control that uses a yoke. The control sticks include linkages that are easily connected to the mounting means on the base so that control sticks can be exchanged with minimum expenditure of time and effort to thereby simulate the control sticks on aircraft that are being simulated. Torque motors can be connected to the simulator to detect the speed and displacement of the control stick and to provide resistance to movement of the control sticks so as to simulate actual flying conditions.

US Patent:
H17280, May 5, 1998
Filed:
Oct 28, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/339991
Inventors:
Thomas M. Kelso - Great Mills MD
David T. Perdue - California MD
Gary L. Pratz - California MD
Damon J. Boyle - Leonardtown MD
Scott R. Davis - Hollywood MD
Douglas M. Vojik - California MD
Assignee:
The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Navy - Washington DC
International Classification:
G09B 942
US Classification:
434 43
Abstract:
A flight simulator displays control choices on an out-the-window display allows a crew member to control it directly by making selections of displayed choices through a "point and click" control module accessible by the crew member while located in the crew station. The simulator can be controlled by either of two crew members and also by an operator at an instructor operator station outside the crew station.
