The bladder opening is covered by a covering that is pierced by a blade at the spout connecting end to create a liquid flow path from the bladder to and through the spout (when the release button is pressed).

The spout is removably attached via first threads to the bladder lock-nut to connect the spout to the bladder and a bladder flange positioned between the spout and the bladder gasket facilitates connecting the bladder and spout to the bottle top.
