Method And Apparatus For Dampening Rudder Vibration

US Patent:
8171870, May 8, 2012
Filed:
Oct 2, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/572987
Inventors:
Daniel L. Gasper - Merced CA, US
Assignee:
Malibu Boats LLC - Merced CA
International Classification:
B63H 25/10
US Classification:
114144R
Abstract:
An apparatus is provided for dampening rudder vibration of a motorboat. The apparatus may include a tiller assembly rotatable about a pivot point adjacent the stern of the motorboat, the tiller assembly including a tiller arm extending in a first direction from the pivot point and configured to be rotated about the pivot point by a user, and/or a damper mounted on the tiller assembly extending in a second direction from the pivot point. The damper may be configured to rotate integrally with the tiller arm, and the damper may include a mass that is sufficient to dampen vibrations of the tiller. A method of using the apparatus for dampening rudder vibration is also disclosed.

Wake Towers And Methods Of Use And Manufacture Thereof

US Patent:
8171874, May 8, 2012
Filed:
Feb 26, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/714318
Inventors:
Daniel Gasper - Atwater CA, US
Assignee:
Malibu Boats, LLC - Merced CA
International Classification:
B63B 17/00
US Classification:
114364, 114253
Abstract:
A wake tower for a powerboat for use in wakeboarding or other water sports is described. The wake tower can include base members attached to the powerboat and a U-shaped bar extending generally upwardly from the base members. The side bars can be tapered inward and can also be angled toward the bow of the powerboat. Support members can be positioned along the side bars to provide increased structural support to increase the maximum load of the wake tower and to increase the rigidity of the wake tower resulting in less shaking during use. A tow cross bar having a tow rope connector can be suspended generally between the side bars of the wake tower. The wake tower can be transitioned between an upright position and a lowered position. Shocks can be used to compensate for some of the weight of the wake tower.

Surf Wake System And Method For A Watercraft

US Patent:
8534214, Sep 17, 2013
Filed:
Mar 14, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/830274
Inventors:
Daniel Lee Gasper - Atwater CA, US
Assignee:
Malibu Boats LLC - Merced CA
International Classification:
B63B 1/22
US Classification:
114284
Abstract:
A wake modifying system for modifying a wake produced by a watercraft traveling through water may include a rudder pivotally mounted to the watercraft for steering the watercraft, a fin pivotally mounted to the watercraft substantially along a centerline of the watercraft and forward the rudder, wherein the fin pivots about an upright axis to modify the wake produced by the watercraft traveling through the water, an actuator mounted within the watercraft and operably coupled to the fin for pivoting the fin relative to the centerline, and a controller mounted on the watercraft allowing an operator to control the actuator and selectively pivot the fin to a desired angle θd relative to the centerline.
