Integrated Battery Tray And Reservoir Assembly

US Patent:
6439329, Aug 27, 2002
Filed:
Oct 6, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/684878
Inventors:
Dhaval Vaishnav - Canton MI
Robert Keller - Davisburg MI
Daniel Osterhart - Auburn Hills MI
Gregory Hamel - Huntington Woods MI
Dennis Raney - Northville MI
Assignee:
Ford Global Tech., Inc. - Dearborn MI
International Classification:
B60R 1604
US Classification:
180 685, 429 96
Abstract:
An integrated battery tray and reservoir assembly is provided which is adapted to be operatively installed within the engine compartment of a conventional vehicle. Assembly includes a battery tray portion having a back wall which includes a generally rectangular cavity a vacuum reservoir plate which is sealingly attached to back wall and which cooperates with back wall and cavity to form a sealed vacuum reservoir a valve housing portion which fluidly communicates with reservoir a solenoid valve assembly and a check valve assembly A vacuum hub locks pulse supply line is coupled to valve and selectively receives vacuum pulses from valve Assembly further includes an engine vacuum line and an HVAC vacuum line which are fluidly coupled to vacuum reservoir and which respectively provide and receive vacuum pressure to/from reservoir.

Load Bearing Solenoid Operated Valve And Method Of Making Same

US Patent:
6588726, Jul 8, 2003
Filed:
Jul 13, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/905518
Inventors:
Daniel J. Osterhart - Birmingham MI
Lewis W. Lake - Troy MI
Assignee:
Eaton Corporation - Cleveland OH
International Classification:
F16K 3102
US Classification:
25112902, 25112921
Abstract:
A load bearing solenoid operated valve having a one piece body with threads on opposite ends thereof for connection to a system placing the valve in tension or compression. An inlet port is formed in one end of the body and a plurality of cross ports are formed to communicate with the inlet. A sleeve valve/armature member which is magnetizable is slidably received over the body and has radial ports which are moved axially for valving the body cross ports. An annular flux collector ring and a pole piece are disposed on the body on opposite axial sides of the sleeve valve. A bobbin with coil thereon is received over the body and sleeve and a magnetically permeable cover over the coil completes the flux loop about the coil.

Combination Battery Cover, Heat Shield And Hold Down

US Patent:
6593027, Jul 15, 2003
Filed:
Jul 27, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/626675
Inventors:
Daniel J. Osterhart - Auburn Hills MI
Robert D. Keller - Davisburg MI
Assignee:
Eaton Corporation - Cleveland OH
International Classification:
H01M 202
US Classification:
429 96, 429100, 429163
Abstract:
A combination battery cover, heat shield, hold down having preferably formed integrally as one piece with flexible living hinges a pair of battery electrode covers. The cover has a cross channel on the undersurface which communicates with riser channels provided between ribs provided in the battery tray side wall. Apertures are formed between the tray sidewall ribs to provide air to the risers. An air deflector extends outwardly from the tray sidewall to direct air flow to the apertures in the tray. In an alternative embodiment, the electrode caps are attached by separately formed living hinges attached to the caps.

Solenoid Assembly With High-Flux C-Frame And Method Of Making Same

US Patent:
6219903, Apr 24, 2001
Filed:
Dec 6, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/455241
Inventors:
Daniel J. Osterhart - Auburn Hills MI
Charles A. Detweiler - Durand MI
Robert D. Keller - Davisburg MI
Assignee:
Eaton Corporation - Cleveland OH
International Classification:
H01F 706
F16K 3102
US Classification:
296021
Abstract:
A solenoid valve having the valve body formed integrally on one end of the coil bobbin. A C-frame formed integrally from a single piece of sheet stock has at least one of the end of the C-frame deformed over an end of the bobbin and the opposite end thereof received on the opposite end of the bobbin to increase the surface area for flux transfer to a sliding armature within the bobbin for operating a valve obturator. In one embodiment, both ends of the C-frame are each deformed respectively over one end of the bobbin.
