Filed:
May 26, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/787602
Inventors:
Daniel Poon - Foothill Ranch CA, US
Kyle Smith - Foothill Ranch CA, US
Assignee:
Bal Seal Engineering, Inc. - Foothill Ranch CA
International Classification:
H01R 13/33
US Classification:
439840, 439 65
Abstract:
A connector assembly is provided for connecting two planar surfaces or structures together to permit electrical transmission between the two. As described, the connector have at least two housing sections having grooves formed therein for receiving springs, such as canted coil springs. The springs are configured to provide constant mechanical and electrical connection between multiple parts and allow for small motions between such parts. By allowing for movement of the connected parts, adequate connection during thermal changes and/or vibrations is maintained. This is possible due to the spring contact interface between the connector assembly and the connecting parts, which allows relative movement between the springs and the connecting parts.

Spring Energized Connector

US Patent:
2002012, Sep 5, 2002
Filed:
Mar 4, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/090325
Inventors:
Daniel Poon - Westminster CA, US
Peter Balsells - Newport Beach CA, US
International Classification:
F16D001/00
US Classification:

Abstract:
A spring energized connector includes an axial spring ring disposed within a housing having a bore with an internal groove for retaining the spring. A piston is provided having an external groove for receiving a portion of this spring and a chamfer is provided for radially expanding the spring as the piston is inserted into the bore in a connect direction with a selected connect force. A contact retaining wall, defining an internal groove sidewall, is disposed at an angle from a normal to a bore centerline for causing axial compression of the spring as the piston is moved in a disconnect direction, opposite the connect direction, causing a disconnect force, in the disconnect direction, greater than a connected force.

Multilayered Canted Coil Springs And Associated Methods

US Patent:
2010028, Nov 18, 2010
Filed:
Apr 26, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/767421
Inventors:
Pete Balsells - Foothill Ranch CA, US
Majid Ghasiri - Foothill Ranch CA, US
