Implant Delivery Instrument

US Patent:
7819880, Oct 26, 2010
Filed:
Jun 30, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/610288
Inventors:
Anthony D. Zannis - Ft Wayne IN, US
Thomas S. Camino - Warsaw IN, US
John W. Kemppainen - Richland MI, US
Herbert E. Schwartz - Ft Wayne IN, US
Danny E. McAdams - Warsaw IN, US
Assignee:
Depuy Products, Inc. - Warsaw IN
International Classification:
A61F 2/00
US Classification:
606 99, 606 86 A, 606914
Abstract:
A surgical instrument has an elongate guide member and a reciprocable member. The elongate guide member provides a protected path of travel for an implant from outside the body to a position near a damaged tissue site. The reciprocable member is movable along the elongate guide member to push the implant along its path of travel. The reciprocable member can include an implant carrier. The implant can be an orthopaedic implant for repair or regeneration of soft tissue at a damaged joint site. The implant can be larger than the transverse dimension of the elongate guide member and folded or rolled to fit within the elongate guide member. Use of this instrument protects the implant from damage as it is delivered to the damaged joint site. The invention also includes a surgical method for delivering an implant to a damaged tissue site.

Implant System With Sizing Templates

US Patent:
7857851, Dec 28, 2010
Filed:
Oct 28, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/261204
Inventors:
Anthony D. Zannis - Fort Wayne IN, US
Herbert E. Schwartz - Fort Wayne IN, US
Danny E. McAdams - Warsaw IN, US
Brian A. Magee - Gig Harbor WA, US
Andrew M. Jacobs - Fort Wayne IN, US
Assignee:
Depuy Products, Inc. - Warsaw IN
International Classification:
A61F 2/08
US Classification:
623 1412, 606102, 33511
Abstract:
Surgical instruments for use in sizing tissue defects and selecting an appropriate implant for the defect include sizing templates. The sizing templates are sized and shaped to correspond to the size and shape of the implants. The sizing templates may be retractable into a tube for use in arthroscopic surgery. The retractable sizing templates are resilient to allow them to be retracted into a small diameter tube, and to expand on release from the tube to the desired size and shape. The method of using the instrument set is also described.

Light Array For A Surgical Helmet

US Patent:
2006013, Jun 22, 2006
Filed:
Dec 21, 2004
Appl. No.:
11/018332
Inventors:
Christian Clupper - Columbia City IN, US
Timothy Vendrely - Fort Wayne IN, US
Danny McAdams - Warsaw IN, US
Leon Huntsman - Kimmell IN, US
International Classification:
F21V 21/084
US Classification:
362106000
Abstract:
A surgical head gear apparatus or helmet includes a lighting system that utilizes circuit board mounted LED clusters supported on the surgical helmet. The LED clusters are part of a light array mounted to the forward portion of the helmet. In one embodiment, the light array is self-contained with its own power supply. In another embodiment, the light array is electrically connected to an external power supply and controller, such as en existing controller associated with the ventilation system of the helmet. In accordance with the invention, the only remote link for the LED clusters and circuit boards is to a control switch and/or power supply.

Coordinate Instrument Set

US Patent:
2006021, Sep 21, 2006
Filed:
Oct 28, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/261839
Inventors:
Anthony Zannis - Fort Wayne IN, US
Herbert Schwartz - Fort Wayne IN, US
Prasanna Malaviya - Mason OH, US
Keith McGrath - Warsaw IN, US
Danny McAdams - Warsaw IN, US
Andrew Jacobs - Fort Wayne IN, US
Jack Farr - Indianapolis IN, US
Randall Holcomb - Memphis TN, US
International Classification:
A61B 5/103
US Classification:
600587000
Abstract:
Surgical instruments for use in mapping tissue defects include telescoping rulers and tubes. One of the instruments has a pointed anchoring tip for piercing tissue near the site of the defect. Another instrument has a hook for catching an anatomical landmark. Measuring portions of the rulers of both instruments include distance indicia so that a coordinate system can be established for mapping the location of the defect or of an implant at the defect site. The coordinate system can be re-established at a later time using the same fixation point for the anchoring tip and the same landmark for the hook to evaluate the clinical effects of the treatment selected. The method of using the instrument set is also described.
