Attitude Determination System And Method With Outer-Loop Gyro Scale-Factor Non-Linearity Calibration

US Patent:
6615117, Sep 2, 2003
Filed:
Nov 13, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/993022
Inventors:
Rongsheng Li - Hacienda Heights CA
David L. Augenstein - Hermosa Beach CA
Assignee:
The Boeing Company - Seattle WA
International Classification:
G06F 1900
US Classification:
701 13, 701221, 701214, 34235714, 244158 R
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for calibrating rate sensor measurements to compensate for rate sensor scale factor non-linearities. An outer loop compensator compares current rate sensor scale factor estimates with the current scale factor non-linearity compensation, and deviations from the current non-linearity compensation are corrected in an updated compensation.

Dual Spin Zero Momentum Satellite System

US Patent:
6152402, Nov 28, 2000
Filed:
Apr 7, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/287721
Inventors:
David L. Augenstein - Hermosa Beach CA
Assignee:
Hughes Electronics Corporation - El Segundo CA
International Classification:
B64G 128
US Classification:
244164
Abstract:
An attitude control system for a spacecraft which includes a bearing power and transfer assembly. The bearing power and transfer assembly is disposed between a first body and a second body. The first body and the second body are counter-rotated with respect to each other by the bearing and power transfer assembly such that the overall spacecraft momentum about the spin axis of the bearing and power transfer assembly is nominally zero.

Method And Apparatus For Controlling Spacecraft Attitude With Rotational Star Trackers

US Patent:
6236939, May 22, 2001
Filed:
Mar 3, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/261727
Inventors:
Douglas H. Hein - Los Angeles CA
Garry Didinsky - Niles IL
David L. Augenstein - Hermosa Beach CA
Assignee:
Hughes Electronics Corporation - El Segundo CA
International Classification:
G01C 2102
G06G 778
US Classification:
701222
Abstract:
High precision spacecraft attitude determination is produced by specially positioning the spacecraft's star trackers and then filtering out measurement errors produced from star tracker electronics. In addition to the conventional azimuth and elevation controls used for star tracker pointing, the star tracker detector array is rotationally positioned about its boresight so that its pixels are traversed by the imaged star path at an angle within 20. degree. of diagonal. This forces both vertical and horizontal spatial error components in the detector plane to a high frequency range at which they can easily be filtered out in common.
