Face Plate Assembly For Electrical Devices

US Patent:
4924349, May 8, 1990
Filed:
May 9, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/191921
Inventors:
David L. Buehler - Bethlehem PA
Elliot G. Jacoby - Glenside PA
Rita Swartvagher - Philadelphia PA
Assignee:
Lutron Electronics Co., Inc. - Coopersburg PA
International Classification:
H02B 104
US Classification:
361357
Abstract:
A wallbox-mountable face plate assembly includes a support plate for the control device, an intermediate plate that attaches to the support plate, and a face plate that snaps onto the intermediate plate. The face plate has a particularly simple construction, requiring no mounting structure on the interior of the back surface. The intermediate plate may be painted to match, or to contrast with, the color of the wall on which the assembly is to be mounted. Alternatively, the intermediate plate could be translucent and backlighted to provide a night light or pilot light.

Multiple Location Dimming System

US Patent:
4689547, Aug 25, 1987
Filed:
Apr 29, 1986
Appl. No.:
6/857739
Inventors:
Michael J. Rowen - Philadelphia PA
Stephen J. Yuhasz - Zionsville PA
David L. Buehler - Lafayette Hill PA
Elliot G. Jacoby - Glenside PA
Joel S. Spira - Coopersburg PA
Assignee:
Lutron Electronics Co., Inc. - Coopersburg PA
International Classification:
G05F 1455
US Classification:
323239
Abstract:
A multiple location system is provided for controlling application of alternating-current power to a load. The system employs a triac as a power carrying device, the gate control circuit for which has been modified to include auxiliary switching. Potentiometers are disposed at various different locations for determining, responsively to the setting or positioning of an actuator, such as the slide control of a linear potentiometer, the magnitude of respective control signals substantially immediately upon setting of the actuator. The signals are mutually exclusively applied to control the triac in accordance with which of the actuators is being set. Alternatively, the control signals can be applied in accordance with which one of a series of take-command switches (one for each location) was last operated. In either case, only two wires are necessary to connect the different locations to one another. In one embodiment, the actuator controls a pair of momentary-close switches associated therewith (e. g.

Sliding Electrical Control

US Patent:
4742188, May 3, 1988
Filed:
Mar 24, 1987
Appl. No.:
7/029688
Inventors:
David L. Buehler - Bethlehem PA
Michael J. Rowen - Emmaus PA
Assignee:
Lutron Electronics Co., Inc. - Coopersburg PA
International Classification:
H01H 1500
H01R 900
US Classification:
200 16R
Abstract:
A sliding electrical control provides a method for controlling the power to electrical systems, such as lamps, motors, etc. from more than one location. The control is designed to be mounted on one side of a plate and operated from the other side. It thus permits a slide for operating the control to be mounted closer to a wall than was possible before. In a preferred embodiment, the control includes a biasing spring, which reduces any tendency to rock, rather than slide, when the motion of the slide is begun.

Wireless Control System

US Patent:
5146153, Sep 8, 1992
Filed:
Nov 1, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/430922
Inventors:
David G. Luchaco - Macungie PA
Stephen J. Yuhasz - Zionsville PA
David Buehler - Bethlehem PA
Raphael K. T. Tang - Belmont MA
Joel S. Spira - Coopersburg PA
International Classification:
G05F 302
US Classification:
323324
Abstract:
A remote wireless load control system wherein the power supplied to a load can be varied from a remote location using a remote control device not electrically wired to the load. The load control system includes a transmitter and a receiver, each having a control actuator for adjusting the power supplied to the load. Control can be conferred upon either the transmitter or the receiver immediately upon manipulation of the control switch, with the adjustment in power level occurring substantially instantaneously upon manipulation of the control actuator. Transmission of load level information between transmitter and receiver is by digitally pulse-coded infrared signal.
