US Classification:
173/176000, 173/002000
Abstract:
A control device for use with pneumatic tools includes a torque limiting timing device and pressure regulator, thereby improving on the accuracy of torque ultimately applied to workpieces. Pneumatic tool with a housing and motor with a control device that is in fluid communication with the tool's motor.

Retrofit Kit For A Modular Control Apparatus For A Power Impact Tool

US Patent:
2004023, Nov 25, 2004
Filed:
Jun 21, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/873079
Inventors:
David Giardino - Mechanicville NY, US
International Classification:
B23Q001/00
US Classification:
173/001000
Abstract:
The invention comprises retrofit kits for power impact tools. The retrofit kits adapt modular control apparatuses to power impact tools that where not originally manufactured to receive a modular control apparatuses. The retrofit kits include a modular control apparatus that has a pressure regulator and a torque limiting device. A tool having such a retrofit kit incorporated with it and a method of making such a kit are also part of the invention.

Overspeed Control Means For Pneumatic Tools

US Patent:
4278103, Jul 14, 1981
Filed:
Jan 7, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/109775
Inventors:
David A. Giardino - Deerfield NY
Assignee:
Chicago Pneumatic Tool Company - New York NY
International Classification:
F01C 2112
US Classification:
137 50
Abstract:
An overspeed control means for pneumatic tools which includes a split ring valve slidably arranged in a circumferential groove formed in a cage member affixed to the rotor shaft of the tool. When the cage member exceeds a predetermined rotational speed, the ring valve will expand and be moved, by pressure differential acting thereupon, into engagement with a valve seat to block holes in a flow circuit for pneumatic medium being conducted to the rotor of the tool, whereby tool operation is terminated.

Powered Impact Wrench

US Patent:
5083619, Jan 28, 1992
Filed:
Sep 25, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/411715
Inventors:
David A. Giardino - Utica NY
William K. Wallace - Barneveld NY
Joseph R. Groshans - Clinton NY
Assignee:
Chicago Pneumatic Tool Company - Utica NY
International Classification:
B23B 4516
US Classification:
173 93
Abstract:
A reversible powered impact wrench is provided wherein improvements are incorporated in the detenting of the reverse direction valve, venting of excessive air pressure within the impact wrench motor housing which may use light weight material due to improved clutch and camming means and wherein an improved one piece anvil-timing shaft is designed to be supported by the impact wrench hammer and rotor.

Pneumatic Hydraulic Hand-Held Power Unit

US Patent:
4497197, Feb 5, 1985
Filed:
Feb 18, 1983
Appl. No.:
6/467652

Rotary Impact Wrench Clutch

US Patent:
4347902, Sep 7, 1982
Filed:
Dec 18, 1979
Appl. No.:
6/104848
Inventors:
William K. Wallace - Barneveld NY
David A. Giardino - Deerfield NY
Assignee:
Chicago Pneumatic Tool Company - New York NY
International Classification:
B25B 1900
US Classification:
173 935
Abstract:
This invention relates to an impact wrench clutch mechanism having a single roller element extending longitudinally between a motor driven coupling and an anvil. A hammer enclosing the roller member, has a single longitudinal pocket, engaged by the roller element for transmission of rotary movement to the hammer. The anvil has cam means arranged to activate the roller element whereby anvil rotation is accomplished with or without impacting, depending upon work load resistance applied to the anvil. The cam means are arranged to provide high rate of acceleration to the hammer whereby impacting values are unexpectedly high.

Pneumatic Nut Runner With Torque Indicator

US Patent:
4265108, May 5, 1981
Filed:
Apr 2, 1979
Appl. No.:
6/026458
Inventors:
William K. Wallace - Barneveld NY
David A. Giardino - Deerfield NY
Assignee:
Chicago Pneumatic Tool Company - New York NY
International Classification:
B25B 23145
US Classification:
7386221
Abstract:
A pneumatically powered hand-held torque wrench having a dial gage arranged on the handle portion of the wrench to display the amount of torque exerted upon a fastener by the tool. A pointer indicates the tool maximum torque attained during tool operation, including manual torquing effort by the tool operator, which pointer maintains maximum torque read-out until the pointer is reset by the operator. A mechanical linkage arrangement transmits tool handle flexure into rotation of the dial gage to indicate maximum torque value developed upon a fastener being worked upon.
