Tinted Plastic Lens For Eye Protecting Devices

US Patent:
6615409, Sep 9, 2003
Filed:
Dec 11, 2001
Appl. No.:
10/014082
Inventors:
Robert Youmans - Vashon WA
David T. Robrahn - Ketchum ID
Assignee:
Scott USA, Inc. - Sun Valley ID
International Classification:
A61F 902
US Classification:
2432
Abstract:
A goggle has a replaceable plastic lens mounted in a flexible frame containing several air vents for passing external air through the goggle interior. The lens is formed of thermoplastic materials to provide spherical and cylindrical versions of the lens. The thermoplastic resins incorporate dyes which tint the lens to create a transmission curve with a broad flattened peak above a 50% transmission level and steep slopes to couple with the response characteristics of the rods of the human eye retina so as to improve contrast in very low light conditions such as night skiing under artificial light. Inlet and outlet air vents are covered by porous foam to reduce fogging in an outdoor environment.

Goggle For Sports And Adverse Environments

US Patent:
6138285, Oct 31, 2000
Filed:
Mar 5, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/262809
Inventors:
David T. Robrahn - Ketchum ID
Robert Youmans - Vashon WA
Assignee:
Scott USA, Inc. - Sun Valley ID
International Classification:
A61F 902
US Classification:
2436
Abstract:
A goggle has a replaceable lens mounted in a flexible frame containing several large air vents facing forwardly to input external air into the goggle interior. The inlet air vents have converging and angled walls. A first porous foam of particular porosity covers the inlet air vents and is located in an upper air channel with a curved deflector wall to disperse the external air into the interior space. Exit vents located in the bottom of the frame are covered with a second porous foam of different characteristics than the first porous foam. The sides of the goggle frame include curved slots with curved retention bars around which a stretchable headband strap is secured to create uneven load forces on the sides of the goggle frame.

Face Mask Having An Air Duct Connectable To A Goggle

US Patent:
4653124, Mar 31, 1987
Filed:
Jul 16, 1985
Appl. No.:
6/755456
Inventors:
Joseph R. McNeal - Hailey ID
David Robrahn - Ketchum ID
Assignee:
Scott USA - Sun Valley ID
International Classification:
A61F 902
US Classification:
2427
Abstract:
A releasably attachable face mask that forms a contiguous channel with an attached goggle to improve goggle ventilation. An elongated pocket or duct formed between two surfaces on the face mask mates with the goggle ventilation system to form the contiguous channel. The channel forms a venturi to draw air out from the goggle interior to the atmosphere through the contiguous channel.

Goggle Having A Tinted Plastic Lens

US Patent:
6138286, Oct 31, 2000
Filed:
Apr 14, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/291711
Inventors:
David T. Robrahn - Ketchum ID
Robert Youmans - Vashon WA
Etienne Billard - Saint Claude, FR
Christine Bejannin - Vaux les Saint Claude, FR
Assignee:
Scott USA, Inc. - Ketchum ID
Christian Dalloz Sunoptics - Sainte-Claude Cedex
International Classification:
A61F 902
US Classification:
2436
Abstract:
A goggle has a replaceable plastic lens mounted in a flexible frame containing several air vents for passing external air through the goggle interior. The lens is formed of thermoplastic materials to provide spherical and cylindrical versions of the lens. The thermoplastic resins incorporate dyes which tint the lens to create transmission curves having peaks and valleys which approximate or enhance certain response characteristics of the retina of the human eye. Inlet air vents are covered by porous foam located in an upper air channel to disperse downwardly the external air into the interior space behind the lens. Outlet vents located in the bottom of the frame are covered with a porous foam to exit air from the interior space.
