A technique for bridging the gap between an initial call and a return call by using network capabilities to capture the callers information and by providing efficacious means for reaching the caller at a later time. Abstract:
In a personal reach telephone service in which a calling party's telephone call to a personal reach telephone number of a called party/subscriber is bridged to a return call placed by the called party/subscriber in response to a page which indicates to the called party/subscriber the presence of a waiting call, a connection is established between a bridging and signaling unit associated with the interexchange network to which the calling party is directed, and the home PBX associated with the called party/subscriber. Abstract:
a telecommunications carrier other than the carrier of last contact is arranged to a) recognize that the telephone to which a particular call is placed is a disconnected telephone and b) provide different call treatment for the call, e. g. , different call handling or different call features or services, as compared to the treatment the telecommunications carrier provides for the same call to the same telephone when it is recognized that the telephone is not disconnected. Advantageously, no effort is wasted in an attempt to complete the telephone call to a disconnected telephone. Such different treatments include 1) simply making no attempt to route the call to the disconnected telephone via the network of last contact, 2) routing the call to a secondary, alternate telephone, and 3) initiating transmission of a page to a pager that is associated with the owner of the disconnected telephone.

Abstract:
Calls to geographically limited toll-free telephone numbers, when originated from outside the predefined geographic region, are completed, but not at the called party's expense, by a) indicating to the caller that the telephone call, which otherwise will be blocked, will be completed on his behalf if the caller provides for payment of the cost of the call and b) completing the call if a signal is received from the caller indicating that the caller agrees to pay the cost of the call. Advantageously, the caller is not automatically charged for what he believed would be a free telephone call. The caller may pay for the call by charging it to any conventionally available account for charging telephone calls to which the caller is authorized to charge charges. If the account associated with the caller's telephone is selected by the caller for charging the call, a further test is made to determine if the ability to charge the cost of such geographically-limited toll-free calls to the account has been blocked. If the ability to charge the cost of such calls to the account has been blocked, the caller is offered the option of selecting a different method of payment for the call.

Abstract:
The invention provides a mobile communication system in a network that receives a location schedule from a subscriber and directs a call to the subscriber based on the location schedule. The network may include a telephone network, a data network and a cable network interconnected together. Each of the networks connects to communication devices. For example, the cable network is connected to fixed location devices such as cable units conventionally provided to cable subscribers. The fixed location devices may be connected to communication devices such as televisions, stereos or mailboxes. When a subscriber location schedule indicates that the subscriber is reachable at a specific fixed location device, the mobility system pages the subscriber at the specific fixed location device when a call is received for the subscriber during the specified date and time found in the location schedule. The subscriber may respond to the page by either making a reverting call commonly used in paging systems or responding directly through the fixed location device if the connected communication device provides for two-way communication.
