Format Control System For Positioning Final Copy Printed Text

US Patent:
3968868, Jul 13, 1976
Filed:
Dec 21, 1973
Appl. No.:
5/427184
Inventors:
John Charlie Greek - Austin TX
Eric Sigfried Petterson - Austin TX
Howard Carl Tanner - Austin TX
David Wesley Terry - Georgetown TX
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
B41J 530
US Classification:
197 19
Abstract:
A system for positioning final copy printed text, upon a first printing, at a specified location on a line in a format determined by input keying. The location can be a blank block on a form to be filled in. After initial setup and during any input or output operation, a final copy printed text mode can be entered by an operator and stored. This will inhibit printing upon further keying until a carrier return is keyed following the text. The printer carrier is positioned through spacing, backspacing, tabbing, etc. relative to the left side of the block, and codes representative thereof are also stored. When the carrier is at the left side of the block, the keying of a variable space or character will define a tentative format and this location, and a variable space or character code will be stored. Then the text is keyed and stored. After the text has been keyed, the keying of spaces, backspaces, tabs, and/or variable spaces will result in codes representative thereof being stored and the final copy text format being finalized.

Register File Write Using Pointers

US Patent:
2020032, Oct 15, 2020
Filed:
Apr 15, 2019
Appl. No.:
16/383775
Inventors:
- Armonk NY, US
Steven J. Battle - Austin TX, US
Joshua W. Bowman - Austin TX, US
Cliff Kucharski - Austin TX, US
Hung Q. Le - Austin TX, US
Dung Q. Nguyen - Austin TX, US
David R. Terry - Austin TX, US
International Classification:
G06F 9/48
G06F 9/54
G06F 12/12
G06F 9/30
Abstract:
A non-limiting example of a computer-implemented method for file register writes using pointers includes, responsive to a dispatch instruction, storing, at a location in a history buffer, an instruction tag and first data associated with the instruction tag. The method further includes storing a pointer in an issue queue. The pointer points to the location in the history buffer. The method further includes performing a write back of second data using the pointer stored in the issue queue. The write back writes the second data into the location of the history buffer associated with the pointer.

Implementing Write Ports In Register-File Array Cell

US Patent:
2020008, Mar 12, 2020
Filed:
Sep 6, 2018
Appl. No.:
16/123608
Inventors:
- Armonk NY, US
Sam G. Chu - Round Rock TX, US
Dung Q. Nguyen - Austin TX, US
Binglong Zhang - Austin TX, US
Howard Levy - Austin TX, US
David R. Terry - Austin TX, US
Steven J. Battle - Austin TX, US
International Classification:
G06F 9/30
G06F 12/02
Abstract:
An approach is provided in which a system writes a set of data into a register file entry that includes a first memory array and a second memory array. The register file entry also includes a set of first write ports corresponding to the first memory array and a set of second write ports corresponding to the second memory array. The system configures a selection bit based on determining that a selected one of the set of first write ports is utilized to store the set of data in the first memory array. In turn, the system reads the set of data out of the first memory array based on the configured selection bit.

International Classification:
G06F 9/52
G06F 12/0875
G06F 9/38
G06F 9/30
Abstract:
Operation of a multi-slice processor that includes execution slices and a dispatch network of the multi-slice processor implementing a hardware level transfer of an execution thread between execution slices. Operation of such a multi-slice processor includes responsive to a thread switch signal: halting dispatch of one or more instructions retrieved from an instruction cache; generating a plurality of instructions to transfer an execution thread from a first execution slice to a second execution slice; and dispatching the plurality of instructions instead of the one or more instructions retrieved from the instruction cache; and transferring, in dependence upon execution of the plurality of instructions from the thread switching instruction generator, the execution thread from the first execution slice to the second execution slice.
