Polymeric Mdi Prepolymer Composition And Flexible Foams Prepared Therefrom

US Patent:
6090864, Jul 18, 2000
Filed:
Apr 25, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/845737
Inventors:
Gary E. Brant - Dearborn MI
Edward W. Cole - Grosse Ile MI
Assignee:
BASF Corporation - Mt. Olive NJ
International Classification:
C08G 1804
US Classification:
521159
Abstract:
The present invention relates to prepolymers, comprising (a) a polymethylene polyphenylene polyisocyanate; and (b) a polyether polyol having an average hydroxyl equivalent weight of at least about 700; wherein the resulting prepolymer has an average viscosity of between about 400 to about 2000 centipoise at 25. degree. C. The prepolymer is useful, for example, for the production of polyurethane foams and, more particularly, to medium density flexible foams having superior flow characteristic and fast demold times.

Polyisocyanate Prepolymer Compositions And Soft Elastomers Prepared Therefrom

US Patent:
5872193, Feb 16, 1999
Filed:
Sep 18, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/932512
Inventors:
Thirmurti Narayan - Grosse Ile MI
Gary Brant - Dearborn MI
Assignee:
BASF Corporation - Mt. Olive NJ
International Classification:
C08F28300
C08K 509
US Classification:
525460
Abstract:
A polyisocyanate prepolymer composition which comprises the reaction product of a) diphenylmethane diisocyanate composition and b) an active hydrogen containing compound having a number average molecular weight of at least about 2000 wherein the reaction is carried out in the presence of a diluent capable of maintaining the average viscosity of the resulting prepolymer below about 500 cps at 25. degree. C. The prepolymer may be reacted with a resin composition to prepare soft elastomers.
