A programmable machine and method for adhering a flexible photovoltaic film panel onto metal supplied from a roll for forming a combination solar and roof panel is provided. The voltaic film panels and metal to which is adhered are supplied on rolls which are fed from reels. The rollformer can form male and female edges on the metal which are necessary for a metal roof. The angle at which the exit cutter can cut is calculated by the programmable computer. A measuring device for measuring the roofing and transferring the data to the programmable machine or the placement of the solar film panels and the cutting of the panels is also provided.

A machine is provided for combining thin flexible solar film panels with a metal sheet to serve as a roof panel for a building. The machine has reels for holding rolls of metal and solar film. The solar film panel has an adhesive with a backing for protecting the adhesive. Means are provided for unrolling both the metal and solar film and for removing the backing from the solar film panel. A mechanical brake device is provided for parting the solar film panel from the adhesive film at the desired length which is sometimes shorter than the length of the metal sheets. A recoiler is provided for removing the backing from the solar film panel. Pressure rollers are provided for pressing the solar film panel to the metal so that the adhesive binds the film panels to the metal. The rollformer component cuts the metal into sheets and configures the metal into the desired structure for the roofing panel.

A programmable machine for roll forming metal decoiled from a roll of metal and cutting the panels at a desired angle is provided. The roll former can form male and female edges on the metal which are necessary for a metal roof. The machine has a notcher to notch the metal where it is to be cut in order to avoid difficulty in cutting through a male or female edge. An exit cutter is provided after the metal has been roll formed. The angle at which the exit cutter can cut is also calculated in the programmable computer. A measuring device for measuring the roof and transferring the data to the programmable machine for cutting the panels completes a system for automatically and accurately cutting the panels for the roof.
