B64D 33/00
F01N 1/08
F01N 1/00
US Classification:
181214, 181252
Abstract:
An inlet silencer for an air inlet in a housing, which housing contains a source of high frequency noise radiated by an air intake for the source of high frequency noise, comprises: a plenum that extends longitudinally within the housing that couples the air inlet in an upstream region of the plenum to the air intake for the source of high frequency noise in a downstream region of the plenum; a partition that extends laterally within the plenum between the upstream region of the plenum and the downstream region of the plenum; at least one channel that penetrates longitudinally through the partition that has a gap across its inner surface that approximates one wavelength of at least one fundamental frequency of high frequency noise that the source of high frequency noise generates; and acoustic damping material that lines the inner surface of the channel.

Auxiliary Power Unit Inlet

US Patent:
8444083, May 21, 2013
Filed:
Jun 30, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/173447
Inventors:
Stacey H. Light - San Diego CA, US
Jack V. Vitale - San Diego CA, US
Assignee:
Hamilton Sundstrand Corporation - Windsor Locks CT
International Classification:
B64D 33/02
B64D 29/08
B64D 41/00
US Classification:
244 53B, 244 58, 2441294
Abstract:
An aircraft auxiliary power unit assembly includes an aircraft skin providing a cavity. The aircraft skin is secured to a structure in an assembled condition and provides an opening. An auxiliary power unit is arranged within the cavity and secured to the structure. The aircraft skin substantially covers the auxiliary power unit in the assembled condition. An inlet duct is removably secured within the opening and is selectively connected to the auxiliary power unit between installed and service positions. The installed and service positions are with the aircraft skin in the assembled condition. A method of servicing the auxiliary power unit includes removing the auxiliary power unit inlet duct from the opening in the aircraft skin. The auxiliary power unit that is arranged within the cavity of the aircraft skin is exposed. A portion of the auxiliary power unit is serviced through the opening.

High Flow Eductor

US Patent:
2012010, May 3, 2012
Filed:
Oct 29, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/916067
Inventors:
Jay M. Francisco - Chula Vista CA, US
Jack V. Vitale - San Diego CA, US
Assignee:
Hamilton Sundstrand Corporation - Windsor Locks CT
International Classification:
F02C 7/00
US Classification:
60 395
Abstract:
An exhaust eductor for a gas turbine engine comprises: an engine exhaust chamber with an exhaust chamber inlet that receives engine exhaust from the gas turbine engine and an exhaust chamber outlet that discharges the engine exhaust to establish an exhaust gas flow through the engine exhaust chamber; an air chamber with an air inlet that receives ambient air external to the gas turbine engine; and a mixing baffle that couples the air chamber to the engine exhaust chamber, comprising a first side adjacent the air chamber, a second side adjacent the exhaust chamber, multiple apertures through the mixing baffle that extend from the first side to the second side of the mixing baffle, each aperture having a corresponding canopy that extends from an upstream end of the aperture along the second side of the mixing baffle into the exhaust gas flow for at least a portion of the length of the aperture, to establish an air flow from the air inlet of the air chamber into the exhaust gas flow.

Auxiliary Power Unit Mounting Feature

US Patent:
2012029, Nov 22, 2012
Filed:
Aug 2, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/196040
Inventors:
Brian C. DeDe - San Diego CA, US
Jack V. Vitale - San Diego CA, US
Markissa Catherine Hiekel - San Diego CA, US
Assignee:
HAMILTON SUNDSTRAND CORPORATION - Windsor Locks CT
International Classification:
F02C 7/20
US Classification:
60796
Abstract:
An auxiliary power unit assembly includes an auxiliary power unit with an auxiliary power unit exhaust duct, a bell mouth, and one or more bell mouth struts. The auxiliary power unit exhaust duct extends from the auxiliary power unit and has an aft end portion that is received within the bell mouth. The bell mouth struts extend from an inner surface of the bell mouth and extend generally radially toward the auxiliary power unit exhaust duct.
