Method For Producing Hydrogen Peroxide From Hydrogen And Oxygen

US Patent:
6752978, Jun 22, 2004
Filed:
Dec 23, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/326286
Inventors:
Harold A. Huckins - Hilton Head SC
Assignee:
Advanced Peroxide Technology, Inc. - Hilton Head SC
International Classification:
C01B 1501
US Classification:
423584
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method and apparatus for safely producing hydrogen peroxide by injecting dispersed minute bubbles of hydrogen and oxygen into a rapidly flowing liquid medium. The minute bubbles are surrounded by the liquid medium of sufficient volume for preventing an explosive reaction between the hydrogen and oxygen. The liquid medium is formed of an acidic aqueous solution and a Group VIII metal catalyst. Hydrogen is sparged into the flowing medium for dissolution of the hydrogen in the medium. Oxygen bubbles are reacted with the dissolved hydrogen for producing hydrogen peroxide. Preferably, the liquid medium has a velocity of at least 10 feet per second for providing a bubbly flow regime in the reactor. The invention allows the direct combination of oxygen and hydrogen while preventing propagation of an explosive condition within the reactor. The method and apparatus provide for the safe production of hydrogen peroxide with low manufacturing costs.

Method For Producing Hydrogen Peroxide From Hydrogen And Oxygen

US Patent:
7147833, Dec 12, 2006
Filed:
Mar 25, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/106011
Inventors:
Harold A. Huckins - Hilton Head Island SC, US
International Classification:
C01B 15/029
US Classification:
423584
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method and apparatus for safely producing hydrogen peroxide by injecting dispersed minute bubbles of hydrogen and oxygen into a rapidly flowing liquid medium. The liquid medium can contain either a water-soluble organic compound, a water-insoluble organic compound, a combination of a water-insoluble organic compound with water, liquid carbon dioxide or supercritical carbon dioxide. The minute bubbles are surrounded by the liquid medium of sufficient volume for quench cooling any explosive reaction between the hydrogen and oxygen. The present invention also relates to reactors with internal catalyst structures and reactors that have a circular path, both of which may be used to produced hydrogen peroxide.

Ceramic Whisker Growing System

US Patent:
5055276, Oct 8, 1991
Filed:
Nov 15, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/437020
Inventors:
Harold A. Huckins - Princeton NJ
International Classification:
B01J 800
US Classification:
422191
Abstract:
A whisker growing furnace having a plurality of removable reaction plates mounted therein. A whisker collecting apparatus removes the plates one at a time from the furnace without shutting down the furnace or stopping the whisker growing process. The whisker collection apparatus includes a whisker stripper for stripping the whiskers from the plate as the plate is removed from the furnace. The plate is then returned to the furnace for further processing as the plate is coated with fresh catalyst.
