Filed:
Nov 12, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/271231
Inventors:
Henk H. Jelsma - Spring TX, US
International Classification:
E21B 43/24
E21B 7/18
US Classification:
1662723, 1662727, 166303, 175424
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for production of material from a subsurface earth formation being intersected by a wellbore that is lined with a well casing. After preparing the well casing by forming injection and production openings or removing a section of the casing to define a borehole interval, a plurality of lateral injection and production passages are formed that extend into the subsurface earth formation from the casing openings or borehole interval. Packers within the well casing define an injection compartment that is in communication with the lateral injection passages and a production compartment that is isolated from the injection compartment. Steam or other injection fluid is injected into the formation via an injection conduit extending from the surface to the injection compartment. Formation fluid migrating through the formation to the production passages is produced via a production conduit extending from the surface to the production compartment. For stabilization of the formation at the lateral injection and production passages a perforate liner is washed into place within each of the lateral passages.

E21B 43/26
US Classification:
1661177, 1662552, 166296, 1663081, 166 55, 1661775
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for forming multiple lateral passages from a wellbore into a subsurface earth formation to facilitate enhancement of the production of oil, gas, heavy oil or minerals from the formation. A plurality of lateral passages are formed from a wellbore into a subsurface formation through the use of a single-run passage forming tool to minimize rig time and associated costs. A downhole indexing tool is positioned downhole and has indexing sections for positioning and indexing of a downhole well service tool and establishes precise radial orientation and location of the tool for its well servicing operation. Sequential unidirectional rotational indexing is accomplished by an indexing control stinger having a J-slot indexing system defining a circumferential slot section defining a desired number of indexing positions that are sequenced responsive to linear reciprocating movement of the indexing control stinger.

US Classification:
166268000, 166050000
Packers within the well casing define an injection zone that is in communication with the lateral injection passages and a production zone that is isolated from the injection zone. Steam or other injection fluid is injected into the formation via an injection conduit extending from the surface to the injection zone. Formation fluid migrating through the formation to the production passages is produced via a production conduit extending from the surface to the production zone. Method And Apparatus For High Pressure Radial Pulsed Jetting Of Lateral Passages From Vertical To Horizontal Wellbores

US Patent:
2009028, Nov 26, 2009
Filed:
May 19, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/454515
Inventors:
Henk H. Jelsma - Spring TX, US
International Classification:
E21B 7/18
E21B 43/11
E21B 29/00
E21B 43/119
US Classification:
175 67, 166298
Abstract:
An apparatus and system that permits radial passages and lateral passages to be jetted into surrounding subsurface formation from existing or new wells. The system employs a casing cutting component that positionable by an anchored indexing device downhole to permit the formation of accurately positioned openings in the well casing. The system employs a passage jetting component employing extreme high jet fluid pressures and a method that allows for the downhole manipulation of the components so that the radial and lateral passages are achieved by minimum pulling work on casing, tubing or other components. The system is fully controllable and reduces dramatically the margins of error and failure that are inherent of the present day systems used for radial drilling.

Method And Apparatus For Subsea Wellhead Encapsulation

US Patent:
2013000, Jan 10, 2013
Filed:
Mar 19, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/385992
Inventors:
Henk H. Jelsma - Spring TX, US
Jean Claude Bret - Pierre Josef Redoute, LU
Heiner P.T. Hartwich - , US
International Classification:
E21B 34/04
US Classification:
166363
Abstract:
A BOP stack encapsulation system has dual partially hemispherical dome sections which are each supported and guided for linear movement to open and closed positions relative to base plate. The dual containment domes are moved from open positions to closed and hermetically sealed positions about a BOP stack responsive to sensing BOP leakage or a dangerous pressure condition and are controllable from a remote location. When both containment domes are closed they develop concentrically arranged dual hermetically sealed spaces that enclose the BOP stack and capture any leaked fluid and pressure. Captured well fluid constituents can be bled from the internal spaces of the concentric encapsulation domes as desired.

Apparatus For Drilling A Curved Borehole

US Patent:
RE33660, Aug 13, 1991
Filed:
May 30, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/530816
Inventors:
Henk H. Jelsma - Spring TX
Assignee:
Baroid Technology - Houston TX
International Classification:
E21B 706
E21B 1720
US Classification:
175107
Abstract:
A non-rotating drill string is formed from a plurality of independent, cylindrical sections pivotally connected together by a latch mechanism. The adjacent ends are partially beveled such that the sections can bend in a single direction. Means are disclosed for varying the effect of the beveled surfaces, thus controlling the angle of bend for a given one of the sections. A downhole mud motor (PDM) drives the drill bit through the use of a flexible drive shaft running through the center of a metal-lined, neoprene drilling fluid hose which runs through the interior of the independent cylindrical sections. The total curvature of the borehole drilled by the system equals the sum of the angles of bend between the individual sections.

Method And Apparatus For Setting And Retrieving A Deflection Tool

US Patent:
4928767, May 29, 1990
Filed:
Apr 27, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/344019
Inventors:
Henk H. Jelsma - Spring TX
Assignee:
Baroid Technology, Inc. - Houston TX
International Classification:
E21B 708
E21B 2300
US Classification:
166377
Abstract:
A drill string includes an anchor type set down bit threadedly connected to the deflection section. Threadably coupled above the deflector section is a shear and retrieve sub having three equally spaced latch pin receptacles and three equally spaced shear pin holes. Above the shear and retrieve sub is a beveled guide section for receiving a retrieving setting tool having a tapered end sized to be inserted within the beveled guide section. The shear and retrieve section has three equally spaced latch pin mechanisms and three equally spaced shear pins. A pickup cross over sub is coupled into the top of the shear and retrieve sub and has an enlarged diameter ring which acts to limit the downward movement of the shear and retrieve section within the interior of the beveled guide and retrieving setting tool sections. A drill string operating from the earth's surface is coupled into the pickup cross-over sub which allows the entire assembly to be lowered into an earth borehole to a desired depth. By applying additional set down weight through the drill string, the shear pins are sheared and the deflector section remains at the desired depth in the borehole.
