Method And Apparatus For High Speed Container Placement

US Patent:
4753275, Jun 28, 1988
Filed:
Apr 13, 1987
Appl. No.:
7/038036
Inventors:
Herbert E. Schaltegger - New Milford CT
International Classification:
B65B 104
US Classification:
141 1
Abstract:
High speed container placement method and apparatus are provided, particularly for check weighing or for use in combination with high speed filling equipment for consumer products, such as instant coffee. A container separating device introduces groups of containers to a container placement and removal device for sequencing therethrough. The individual containers are transferred from an annular turntable to separate stationary work positions on a deck plate where they undergo a processing step. Following this processing step, the containers are removed from their respective stationary positions and returned to the annular turntable to be ultimately discharged from the container placement apparatus. The containers are placed at and removed from the work positions respectively by feeder and discharge guides which oscillate as they travel about the deck plate along an epicycloidal type path. There may be a plurality of feeder and discharge guides, these being arranged as two or more sets of single guides, or one or more sets of double guides diametrically opposite each other.

Straight Line Checkweigher

US Patent:
4848479, Jul 18, 1989
Filed:
Nov 30, 1987
Appl. No.:
7/126541
Inventors:
Herbert E. Schaltegger - New Milford CT
Assignee:
Preston, Suprenant & Company, Inc. - Lincoln RI
International Classification:
G01G 1900
B65B 146
US Classification:
177145
Abstract:
Apparatus for checking the weight of filled containers delivered from a supply conveyor traveling at a predetermined speed and for delivering the weighed pieces to a pick-up conveyor; in which at least one weighing unit provides a guide for receiving a container from the conveyor and for guiding the same to a weigh station at diminishing speeds from the conveyor to the weigh station and a rotatable plow for removing the piece from the weigh station; from a stopped position adjacent the piece at the station at increasing speeds to the pick-up conveyor. The weigh station is disposed intermediate the conveyors and where two units are used, the weigh stations may be positioned along a straight line.

Method And Apparatus For High Speed Container Placement

US Patent:
4657054, Apr 14, 1987
Filed:
Aug 1, 1986
Appl. No.:
6/893035
Inventors:
Herbert E. Schaltegger - New Milford CT
International Classification:
B65B 104
US Classification:
141 1
Abstract:
High speed container placement method and apparatus are provided for use in combination with high speed filling equipment for consumer products, such as instant coffee. A container separating device introduces groups of containers to a container placement and removal device for sequencing therethrough. The individual members of a group are transferred from a high speed annular turntable of the container placement and removal device to separate stationary work positions on a deck plate where they undergo a processing step such as filling the container by weight with an appropriate amount of product. Following this processing step, the containers are removed from their respective stationary work positions and returned to the high speed annular turntable to be ultimately discharged from the container placement and removal device. Simultaneously, the next group of containers is being fed into the apparatus to sequentially replace the fully processed group. The containers are placed at and removed from the work positions respectively by feed and discharge guides which oscillate as they travel about the deck plate in an epicycloidal path.

High Speed Straight Line Weighing System

US Patent:
5176241, Jan 5, 1993
Filed:
Aug 16, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/745923
Inventors:
Herbert Schaltegger - New Milford CT
International Classification:
B65G 3700
US Classification:
1983462
Abstract:
A high speed container placement machine in which stationary units consisting of one feeder guide, one load cell and one discharge guide are placed in a spaced-apart relationship along the side of a supply conveyer traveling at a constant speed and carrying at least one row of spaced apart containers. The feeder guides of a particular group of such units simultaneously pick up a plural number of containers from the supply conveyer and place them on their respective load cells. After processing, the discharge guides of the units simultaneously remove the processed containers from the load cells and place them back on the same conveyer again between the arriving containers. The guides are driven by a simple cam and cam-follower variable speed drive mechanism which prevents any unintended interference between the guides and any of the containers.
