Modifying A Key-Word Listing Based On User Response

US Patent:
6571239, May 27, 2003
Filed:
Jan 31, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/463825
Inventors:
Alan George Cole - Katonah NY
Yael Ravin - Mount Kisco NY
Howard Edward Sachar - Mount Kisco NY
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F 1730
US Classification:
707 5, 707 3
Abstract:
This invention provides methods, apparatus, system, and article of manufacture which solve the problem of mismatch between the keywords employed by a user in making a query and those assigned by the manual or automatic classification system stored in the systems keyword index. The system records the initial keyword(s) input by the user and holds them until the user is either satisfied or gives up. If in a query session the user is satisfied with the object(s) retrieved from the repository, the system associates the initial keywords(s) with the retrieved object(s). This facilitates the objects retrieval by the same user or subsequent users who input the same keywords. The keyword index is modified directly when, for example, a single service or application controls the interaction between user and repository, end to end.

System And Method For Monitoring Behavior Patterns

(K)-Instructions-At-A-Time Pipelined Processor For Parallel Execution Of Inherently Sequential Instructions

US Patent:
4594655, Jun 10, 1986
Filed:
Mar 14, 1983
Appl. No.:
6/475286
Inventors:
Hsieh T. Hao - Chappaqua NY
Huei Ling - Chappaqua NY
Howard E. Sachar - New Paltz NY
Jeffrey Weiss - Providence RI
Yannis J. Yamour - New York NY
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F 700
G06F 742
US Classification:
364200
Abstract:
Equipping a secondary data flow facility with additional capability, to emulate for certain operations the simultaneous processing of the prerequisite instruction and the dependent instruction, significantly improves simultaneous pipeline processing of inherently sequential instructions (k)-at-a-time, by eliminating delays for calculating prerequisite operands. For example, Instruction A+B=Z1 followed by Instruction Z1+C=Z2 is inherently sequential, with A+B=Z1 the prerequisite instruction and Z1+C=Z2 the dependent instruction. The specially equipped secondary data flow facility does not wait for Z1, the apparent input operand from the prerequisite instruction; it simulates Z1 instead, performing A+B+C=Z2 in parallel with A+B=Z1. All data flow facilities need not be fully equipped for all instructions; the secondary data flow facility may be generally less massive than a primary data flow facility, but is more sophisticated in a critical organ, such as the adder. The three-input adder of the secondary data flow facility emulates the result of a two-input adder of a primary data flow facility, occuring simultaneously in the two-input primary data flow facility adder, adding the third operand to the emulated result, without delay.
