Session-Based Accounting

US Patent:
7272379, Sep 18, 2007
Filed:
Apr 26, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/133232
Inventors:
Jack T. Tang - Danville CA, US
Russel Brankley - Willingboro NJ, US
Daniel T. Belenets - Summit NJ, US
Ce Xu - San Ramon CA, US
William C. King - Lafayette CA, US
Peter Hu - Pleasanton CA, US
Patricia R. Chang - San Ramon CA, US
Peter Li - Albany CA, US
Assignee:
Cellco Partnership - Bedminster NJ
International Classification:
H04M 11/00
US Classification:
455406, 455405
Abstract:
Improved billing accuracy in session-based communications is provided by separating session (or connection) billing from session processing. If two sessions () on the same serving node are bridged, so the true stop time of the prior session () is not known, the stop time of the prior session is defined as a function of the last activity during (TALS) that session. To accomplish this, the serving node detects and stores the time of last activity and the time of initiation for each connection and determines the billing time accordingly, regardless of the state of the inactivity timer () or whether sessions were bridged by the serving node.

Network Based Ip Address Assignment For Static Ip Subscriber

US Patent:
7277416, Oct 2, 2007
Filed:
Sep 2, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/652559
Inventors:
Patricia Ruey Chang - San Ramon CA, US
Clarence E. Drumheller - Belleville NJ, US
Ce Xu - San Ramon CA, US
William C. King - Lafayette CA, US
Jack Tang - Danville CA, US
Peter Hu - Pleasanton CA, US
Peter Li - Albany CA, US
Assignee:
Cellco Partnership - Bedminster NJ
International Classification:
H04Q 7/00
H04J 15/00
H04M 1/00
H04M 3/00
US Classification:
370338, 370328, 370912, 455419, 4555501, 4555562
Abstract:
In existing standards for packet data communication over enhanced cellular networks, for a subscriber having a static address, the network relies on the terminal to provide the static address. Consequently, the terminal needs to know (be programmed with) its own static address and typically the address of a home agent element of the network. To eliminate the attendant need to provision such address data in the mobile station, the static address is stored in a node of the network, and the network assigns that one address to the mobile station, every time when the subscriber requests packet data service, for example, using a mobile IP (MIP) type address assignment procedure. The address assignment operation may also provide the home agent address to the station.

Fail-Open Network Techniques

US Patent:
2013003, Jan 31, 2013
Filed:
Jul 29, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/193980
Inventors:
Patricia CHANG - San Ramon CA, US
Jack T. Tang - Danville CA, US
Assignee:
CELLCO PARTNERSHIP - Basking Ridge NJ
International Classification:
G06F 15/173
US Classification:
709225
Abstract:
A network device may receive, from a user device, a request for network access to a network and communicate a request, to a subscriber data storage, for subscriber data, corresponding to the user device, to verify whether the user device may be granted network access. The network platform may determine, in response to communicating the request to the subscriber data storage, that the subscriber data storage is non-responsive and executing a fail-open function in response to determining that the subscriber data storage is non-responsive. The fail-open function may include processing the request for network access without subscriber data from the subscriber data storage and granting network access to the user device without verifying that the user device is permitted to access the network.

Multicarrier Wireless Service Selection

US Patent:
2014006, Mar 6, 2014
Filed:
Sep 5, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/603840
Inventors:
Patricia R. CHANG - San Ramon CA, US
Lalit R. KOTECHA - San Ramon CA, US
Benjamin J. PARKER - Foster City CA, US
David CHIANG - Fremont CA, US
Jack T. TANG - Danville CA, US
James A. WALES - Santa Cruz CA, US
Assignee:
VERIZON PATENT AND LICENSING INC. - Basking Ridge NJ
CELLCO PARTNERSHIP D/B/A VERIZON WIRELESS - Basking Ridge NJ
International Classification:
H04W 4/00
H04W 4/24
US Classification:
455406, 4554221
Abstract:
A user equipment (UE) provides a device identifier to a server device, and receives, based on one of the device identifier or a location of the device, carrier pricing information from the server device. The UE provides the carrier pricing information for display, and receives a selection of a particular carrier from the displayed carrier pricing information. The UE provides an indication of the particular carrier to the server device, initializes a connection with the particular carrier, and performs one or more communication operations via the connection with the particular carrier.

Device And Network Monitoring Correlation System For Network Troubleshooting

Appl. No.:
13/603822
Inventors:
Patricia R. CHANG - San Ramon CA, US
Steven R. RADOS - Danville CA, US
Maria G. LAM - Oakland CA, US
Lalit R. KOTECHA - San Ramon CA, US
Arda AKSU - Martinez CA, US
Jack T. TANG - Danville CA, US
Assignee:
CELLCO PARTNERSHIP d/b/a Verizon Wireless - Basking Ridge NJ
VERIZON PATENT AND LICENSING, INC. - Basking Ridge NJ
International Classification:
H04W 24/00
US Classification:
455423
Abstract:
A monitoring device may determine an application to monitor, may determine a parameter to monitor, where the parameter is associated with at least one of a network or a device, may determine user devices from which to collect the parameter, and may transmit, to the user devices, information that identifies the application and information that identifies the parameter. The monitoring device may receive, from the user devices, information that identifies values of the parameter, may analyze the values of the parameter, may determine, based on the analysis, that the application is a cause of a problem associated with the network or the device. The monitoring device may perform an action based on determining that the application is a cause of the problem.
