A system and method for automatically detecting abnormal heart contractions originating in the ventricles, in a way that is independent of signal morphology is provided. As an uninterrupted series of ventricular detections indicates a possible ventricular arrhythmia, all ventricular beats are detected including isolated premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) and the associated R-R intervals are corrected. Premature ventricular contractions (ectopic beats) in non-standard lead configuration in a noisy signal from an ambulatory subject from a low-cost sensor that may be a small form factor sensor with 1 inch lead separation and may be rotated through multiple placements to correct an R-R interval time series used to detect atrial fibrillation.

Embodiments of the present invention provide devices and methods for monitoring the waste output of one or more individuals. Embodiments provide a waste receptacle equipped with one or more cameras capable of imaging the contents of the waste receptacle and optionally a scale that is capable of measuring the weight of the waste receptacle or the weight of the contents of the waste receptacle. A method for automatically detecting atrial fibrillation in a non-standard ECG signal having changing morphology and containing significant muscle noise generated by an ambulatory subject is provided. A morphology independent QRS detector is used to compute R-R intervals in the ECG signal. Abstract:
An apparatus for measuring volume of a lower extremity includes a substantially elastic sock body with a leg end, a toe end, and a length between the leg end and the toe end. The sock body may be dimensioned to substantially snugly receive a lower extremity. A measurement thread is attached to the sock body in a manner that causes the measurement thread to wrap around the lower extremity in multiple coils along the length of the sock body. The apparatus also includes a measurement gauge that measures at least one attribute of the measurement thread that corresponds to sock volume. In one embodiment, the measurement thread is substantially inelastic and has a fixed end, and the measurement gauge measures length of the measurement thread between the fixed end and the measurement gauge. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
