Valve Train Assembly With Magnet

US Patent:
7798114, Sep 21, 2010
Filed:
Feb 8, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/028608
Inventors:
Mark McElwee - Lake Orion MI, US
Jermel Jones - Southfield MI, US
Peter Sailer - Erlangen, DE
Oliver Schnell - Veitsbronn, DE
Assignee:
Schaeffler KG - Herzogenaurach
Chrysler Group LLC - Auburn Hills MI
International Classification:
F01L 1/18
US Classification:
123 9044, 123 9046, 123 9047, 184 625
Abstract:
The valve train assembly with magnet uses the magnet to collect ferrous metal particles that are in the oil prior to their arrival at the high pressure cavity of the hydraulic lash adjuster. The magnet can be positioned in the low pressure cavity of the hydraulic lash adjuster, in the bore of the hollow rocker arm shaft or in the bore of the hollow push rod.

Switchable Valve-Drive Component

US Patent:
7363894, Apr 29, 2008
Filed:
Mar 14, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/375348
Inventors:
Matthew Evans - Warren MI, US
Jermel Jones - Southfield MI, US
Peter Sailer - Erlangen, DE
Oliver Schnell - Veitsbronn, DE
Tim Matthias Hosenfeldt - Ebern, DE
Assignee:
Schaeffler KG - Herzogenaurach
International Classification:
F01L 1/34
US Classification:
123 9016, 123 9039, 123 9044, 123 9048, 74569
Abstract:
A switchable valve-drive component () for variable transmission of a stroke generated by one or more cam projections to a gas-exchange valve of an internal combustion engine is provided. The valve-drive component () has transmission elements (), which can be connected with a positive fit by coupling elements () in the transmission direction, in which force transmission surface sections () of the coupling elements () can be clamped between force transmission surface sections () of the transmission elements (). Here, at least one of the force transmission surface sections () should be provided with a wear protection layer (). This layer comprises at least one metal-free amorphous hydrocarbon layer with sp-hybridized and sp-hybridized carbon.

Hydraulic Cam Follower

US Patent:
2008014, Jun 26, 2008
Filed:
Nov 28, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/946115
Inventors:
Florin Bugescu - Canton MI, US
Jermel Jones - Southfield MI, US
Richard Best - Grem UT, US
Assignee:
SCHAEFFLER KG - Herzogenaurach
International Classification:
F01L 9/00
US Classification:
123 9012
Abstract:
A hydraulic cam follower (), such as a roller tappet, is provided. This is used for the actuation of two identically operating gas-exchange valves and should be installed inclined to the direction of the force of gravity. The cam follower () comprises a pot-shaped housing (), whose bottom () is provided with a roller as a cam contacting element (). In the housing (), two guides () extending parallel to the direction of the internal combustion engine are provided, in each of which a pressure piston () is arranged so that it can move axially, whose end () away from the housing is constructed as a support for contact with a respective tappet pushrod. Each pressure piston () encloses a reservoir () for hydraulic medium. For each pressure piston (), an opening () extends from the outer casing () of the housing () for feeding hydraulic medium to the reservoirs (), wherein the openings () are arranged on a peripheral segment of the outer casing () lying at the top viewed in the direction of the force of gravity. Thus, a so-called double roller tappet is provided as a cam follower (), which can store a sufficiently large amount of hydraulic medium despite its inclined installation.
