Feb 3, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/770951
Inventors:
Stefano Righi - Lawrenceville GA, US
Brian Richardson - Loganville GA, US
Jerry Petree - Alpharetta GA, US
Assignee:
American Megatrends, Inc. - Norcross GA
International Classification:
G06F 9/44
G06F 15/16
G06F 15/177
US Classification:
717172, 709202, 709221, 713 2
Abstract:
Methods and systems are provided for updating firmware on a plurality of networked computing devices via a distributed network. An instruction to update the firmware on a plurality of networked computing devices, such as nodes in a computer cluster, is sent from a manager computer to the computing devices monitoring for instructions. When the instruction is received, the computing devices transition to an operating system independent recovery state, receive a new firmware image over the distributed network, and update the firmware with the new firmware image.

Methods And Systems For Updating And Recovering Firmware Within A Computing Device Over A Distributed Network

US Patent:
7673301, Mar 2, 2010
Filed:
Feb 3, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/771245
Inventors:
Stefano Righi - Lawrenceville GA, US
Brian Richardson - Loganville GA, US
Jerry Petree - Alpharetta GA, US
Assignee:
American Megatrends, Inc. - Norcross GA
International Classification:
G06F 9/44
G06F 15/16
G06F 15/177
US Classification:
717172, 709202, 709221, 713 2
Abstract:
Methods and systems are provided for updating and recovering firmware within computers over a distributed network. While a computer is in an operating system independent state, a determination is made as to whether the firmware within the computer is valid. The firmware may be the BIOS for the computer. If it is determined that the current firmware is invalid, a recovery request is sent to a manager computer monitoring for recovery requests. The manager computer sends a new firmware image over the network to the computer. The invalid firmware is then updated with the new firmware image. An instruction to update the firmware of the computer may also be sent from a manager computer to computers monitoring for instructions. When the instruction is received, the computer transitions to an operating system independent recovery state, receives a new firmware image over the network, and updates with the new firmware image.

Udp To Tcp Bridge

US Patent:
7957402, Jun 7, 2011
Filed:
Aug 8, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/199308
Inventors:
Eswar Konduru - Norcross GA, US
Jerry Petree - Dacula GA, US
Assignee:
American Megatrends, Inc. - Norcross GA
International Classification:
H04L 12/28
H04L 12/56
US Classification:
370401, 370216, 370248, 370254
Abstract:
A bridge module bridges communications between computing systems using the UDP (user datagram protocol) communication protocol and computing systems using the TCP (transmission control protocol) communication protocol. Communications between the bridge and the computing system having UDP communication drivers are handled with the UDP protocol. Communications between the bridge and the computing system having TCP communication drivers are handled with TCP protocol. The UDP computing system sends data packets to the bridge module. The bridge module converts these packets from UDP protocol to packets in TCP protocol and sends them to the TCP computing system. The TCP computing system can send data back to the UDP computing system by sending packets to the bridge module using the TCP protocol. The bridge module will convert the TCP data packets from the TCP computing system to data packets in UDP protocol and forward them on to the UDP computing system.

Methods And Systems For Remotely Updating The Firmware Of Multiple Computers Over A Distributed Network

US Patent:
7293169, Nov 6, 2007
Filed:
Feb 3, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/771016
Inventors:
Stefano Righi - Lawrenceville GA, US
Brian Richardson - Loganville GA, US
Jerry Petree - Alpharetta GA, US
Assignee:
American Megatrends, Inc. - Norcross GA
International Classification:
G06F 15/177
US Classification:
713 2, 709220, 717171
Abstract:
These systems and methods make use of operating system dependent applications that allow remote updates to firmware stored on network attached remote computers. Updates to the remote computers may occur on any computer in the network despite diverse hardware architectures and various operating systems executing between the computers. A command to update the firmware on the remote computers is initiated from a manager utility application operating on a network attached manager computer. The command is then received at an agent application operating on each remote computer. Each agent application monitors command activity via a communication port. Upon determining that the command is valid, each agent application receives an update application and a new firmware file from a network attached computer or data storage and utilizes the update application and the new firmware file to update the firmware of each network attached computer.

Radio Frequency Tag Relay Attack Prevention And Notification

US Patent:
2021000, Jan 7, 2021
Filed:
Jul 1, 2019
Appl. No.:
16/458926
Inventors:
- San Jose CA, US
Qiyan Wang - Mountain View CA, US
Jerry L. Petree - San Jose CA, US
Samir Agrawal - Milpitas CA, US
Sandeep Dhull - Santa Clara CA, US
Luna Chen - San Jose CA, US
Jamie P. Carlson - San Jose CA, US
International Classification:
B60R 25/24
B60R 25/01
Abstract:
Remote devices have replaced keys as a means to access a secure feature of a vehicle. Remote door locks, starters, climate control, trunk openers, etc., have allowed vehicles to be more welcoming and easier to use. However, such functions often rely on radio frequency transmissions that can merely relay signals coming from an authorized device that may allow a nefarious user to access the vehicle or contents therein. By encoding sequence numbers and timestamps within an exchange, a vehicle may determine that an authorized user is too far away to be granted access to the secure feature, thereby denying access to the nefarious user implementing a relay attack on the vehicle.

Method, System, And Device For Seamless Fault Tolerant Clock Synchronization In A Vehicle Communication System

US Patent:
2021000, Jan 7, 2021
Filed:
Jul 1, 2019
Appl. No.:
16/459013
Inventors:
- San Jose CA, US
Samir Agrawal - Milpitas CA, US
Jerry L. Petree - San Jose CA, US
Jevin K. Saini - Fremont CA, US
Aswini Vijayaraghavan - Santa Clara CA, US
Yongbum Kim - Los Altos Hills CA, US
International Classification:
H04J 3/06
H04L 7/00
H04L 12/40
Abstract:
Methods, systems, and devices of the present disclosure are directed to providing seamless fault tolerant clock synchronization utilizing redundant reference clocks in a vehicle communication system. Redundant grandmaster clocks may be synchronized by utilizing clock signals sent between physical layers over a network, and derived clocks of network end devices may be synchronized using messages sent by the grandmaster clocks over the same or separate networks. The primary and backup grandmaster clocks may concurrently transmit synchronization messages to the network end devices. In this way, the grandmaster clocks may be synchronized to clock signals, and the network end devices may derive local clocks based on one, some, or all of the received messages transmitted over a network by the grandmaster clocks.

George T. Feltovich - San Jose CA, US
International Classification:
H04W 74/02
H04W 4/48
Abstract:
Embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to vehicle communication systems, in particular, toward contention resolution on a shared medium in vehicle communication systems. The present disclosure can provide a modified version of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.3 standard to handle physical layer (PHY), and data link layer's (DLL) media access control (MAC) of the wired communication links in the vehicle communication subsystem utilizing a shared medium and half-duplex mode. As a result, the modified MAC and PHY may provide fair access and deterministic latency for shared access to the medium of vehicle communication systems independent of the offered network load.
