Abstract:
Methods and arrangements for virtual private network (VPN) data packets are disclosed. VPN packets include a payload having Internet Protocol (IP) addresses which guide the packet through a network to a security gateway. The payload may be encrypted and/or compressed and may include internal addresses to denote the real source and destination for a data portion of the payload. As initial control packets are received they are authenticated and rules and procedures are identified for proper treatment of VPN data packets bearing the same source IP address. The rules and procedures are stored in a gateway data engine having a plurality of protocol processing modules. VPN data packets are received by a protocol discriminator which reads the stored rules and procedures identified for the source IP address of the received packet. The discriminator passes the received packet to a first protocol module as identified in the stored rules and procedures. After the first module completes processing, the packet is passed back to the protocol discriminator which determines whether further protocol processing is required. When further protocol processing is required, the packet is passed to another protocol module for processing in accordance with another protocol. At the completion of processing, the second protocol module returns the packet to the protocol discriminator.

Abstract:
A wireless communication system that includes an MS that is a member of multiple talkgroups provides for a prioritization of the multiple talkgroups. A database included in the system maintains an MS identifier associated with the MS and maintains multiple talkgroup identifiers in association with the MS identifier, wherein each talkgroup identifier of the multiple talkgroup identifiers corresponds to a talkgroup of the multiple talkgroups. The database further maintains a prioritization associated with at least one talkgroup of the multiple talkgroups. In one embodiment of the invention, the MS may dynamically prioritize the multiple talkgroups to which it belongs. In another embodiment of the present invention, the prioritization may be statically maintained. In still another embodiment of the invention, the system utilizes the maintained prioritizations to determine whether to interrupt the MS when the MS is involved in a multi-party communication session.

Abstract:
A call coverage arrangement in which coverage personnel are informed of the switch-hook status of covered terminals by way of a single two-part indicator on the coverage terminal. The two-part indicator indicates switch-hook status for any one of a number of covered terminals. The first part of the indicator identifies the covered terminal and the second part defines the switch-hook status of the identified terminal. The arrangement is flexible in providing coverage for additional terminals and in providing coverage via forwarding from any termianl, since there is no need to assign and dedicate status indicators to particular terminals.

Advantageously, large telecommunication networks can be implemented using a small number of switching units.

Abstract:
An enhanced Time Slot Interchange (TSI) facility, in addition to serving synchronous channels of communication, decomposes and composes asynchronous data cells to provide real-time communication among and between both synchronous and asynchronous channels served by a network access switch. An asynchronous cell comprises a 5 byte header and a 48 byte payload. The payload comprises voice samples from a temporarily defined set of DSO facilities and/or data from a variety of data facilities. Time slots of the TSI are temporarily assigned to the payload bytes of each incoming asynchronous cell; the payload bytes are stored in memory locations corresponding to those time slots; and the stored data is read out during time slots assigned to the destination channels of communication. The TSI comprises three data rams to accommodate for frame to frame jitter in the time of arrival of payload samples. Asynchronous cells are composed by transferring stored voice samples and data bytes to an asynchronous link during the times slots which are currently assigned to bytes of the composed cell payload.
