A transdermal drug delivery device has a drug containing element containing a drug which is preferably charged and first and second electrodes for conducting a current flow through the drug containing element. The current flow causes the drug to be released from the drug containing element and to permeate through the skin of a user to which the device has been fixed. A power source is connected to the first and second electrodes for providing the energy necessary to generate the current flow. The power source comprises a thermocouple or thermopile having two different poles which are connected to the first and/or second electrodes, whereby a self-contained drug delivery device is formed which provides the energy necessary for generating the current flow by means of a difference in temperature of the skin of the user and the ambient air (environment), thus providing a device free of batteries, accumulators or other external energy sources.

In the representative embodiment of the invention described herein, an adjustable sprinkler for a fire protection system has a sprinkler assembly tube which is mounted for longitudinal movement in a bore extending longitudinally into a component of a fluid supply piping network for the fire protection system. A latching device is resiliently urged into the bore of the component to prevent accidental removal of the sprinkler assembly tube during its longitudinal movement in the bore by releasably engaging the sprinkler assembly tube before it is completely removed from the bore. When the sprinkler assembly tube is disengaged by the latching device, the sprinkler assembly tube can be removed from the bore.

In the representative embodiments of the invention described herein a dry sprinkler for a fire protection system has a pair of coaxial tubes arranged one inside the other and a plug which seals a fluid passageway formed in a cap at the inlet end of the outer tube to prevent fluid in a supply pipe of the fire protection system from flowing into the sprinkler when the plug is in the passageway. The plug is retained in the passageway against fluid pressure in the supply pipe by a retaining mechanism which releases the plug for automatic expulsion from the passageway by the fluid pressure in the supply pipe when the inner tube moves longitudinally from a first position to a second position.
