Rotary Cutting Tool With Improved Cutting And Reduced Clogging On Soft Tissue And Thin Bone

US Patent:
2013019, Aug 1, 2013
Filed:
Mar 13, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/801147
Inventors:
Joshua David Rubin - McLean VA, US
Assignee:
MEDTRONIC-XOMED, INC. - Jacksonville FL
International Classification:
A61B 17/16
A61B 17/32
US Classification:
606 79, 606180
Abstract:
A surgical cutting instrument including two coaxially arranged tubular members. The first tubular member has a cutting tip and is co-axially disposed within the second tubular member, which in turn has a cutting window to expose the cutting tip to tissue and bone through the cutting window. Movement of the tubular members with respect to each other debrides soft tissue and thin bone presented to the cutting window. The second (outer) tubular member has one or more features which contribute to reduced clogging of the cutting tip as a whole.

Screw Insertion Instrument And Methods Of Use

US Patent:
2022018, Jun 16, 2022
Filed:
Dec 7, 2021
Appl. No.:
17/544363
Inventors:
- Leesburg VA, US
Erica Lynn Marron - Leesburg VA, US
Joshua David Rubin - Reston VA, US
Andrew Kam - Westmead, AU
International Classification:
A61B 17/70
A61B 17/86
Abstract:
A screw driving instrument is provided with a stylet holder able to retain a head of a stylet at one of multiple discrete locations. A user may vary a distance that a point of the stylet extends from a distal end of the instrument by choosing which of the discrete locations to insert the stylet head into before coupling the stylet holder to the instrument. The instrument may include a ratcheting handle capable of rotation in one direction about a central axis of the instrument relative to other components of the instrument. The stylet holder may be engageable with the handle.

Screw Insertion Instrument And Methods Of Use

US Patent:
2021020, Jul 8, 2021
Filed:
Mar 23, 2021
Appl. No.:
17/209893
Inventors:
- Leesburg VA, US
Joshua David Rubin - Reston VA, US
Olivia Angus - Pleasanton CA, US
Mary Hayles - Brockport NY, US
International Classification:
A61B 17/70
A61B 17/88
Abstract:
A screw insertion instrument includes a handle, a driving assembly, and a stylet. The driving assembly extends distally from the handle and includes a knob, a tubular body extending distally from the knob, and a driver including an elongated body extending through the knob and the tubular body. The elongated body has a proximal region operably coupled to the handle and a distal region extending distally beyond the tubular body and engageable with a pedicle screw. The stylet includes an elongated body positionable through first and second longitudinal bores defined through the handle and the driver, respectively. A proximal portion of the stylet is positionable adjacent the handle and a distal portion of the stylet extends distally beyond the driver and is positionable through a third longitudinal bore defined through the pedicle screw such that the distal portion of the stylet extends distally beyond the pedicle screw.

Surgical Instrument And Methods Of Use Thereof

US Patent:
2020023, Jul 30, 2020
Filed:
Jan 29, 2020
Appl. No.:
16/775961
Inventors:
- Leesburg VA, US
Joshua David Rubin - Reston VA, US
International Classification:
A61F 2/46
A61B 17/16
Abstract:
A surgical instrument includes a housing, an outer shaft, an inner shaft, a trial sizer, a rod, and a head. The outer shaft is operatively coupled with the housing such that rotation of the housing causes axial displacement of the outer shaft. The outer shaft includes a keel cutter configured to form a channel in a vertebral body. The inner shaft disposed within the outer shaft. The trial sizer is configured to be received in intervertebral space. The trial sizer includes a pair of wings transitionable between a retracted position and an extended position in which the pair of wings extends transversely outward. The head is connected to the rod, wherein the head is operatively coupled with the pair of wings such that axial displacement of the rod causes transition of the pair of wings between the retracted and extended positions.
