Automatic Synchronization Of State Colors Across A Web-Based System

US Patent:
6505256, Jan 7, 2003
Filed:
Jan 15, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/232409
Inventors:
Justin E. York - Spring TX
Assignee:
Compaq Information Technologies Group, L.P. - Houston TX
International Classification:
G06F 1516
US Classification:
709246, 709203, 709248, 709250, 345501
Abstract:
A network provides color translation between a server side application and a web browser application. A color object created on the server side is reduced into the individual color components defining the color property for the object. These discrete color components are then converted into numerical values representing the intensity of the respective component. The color components are then combined into a format usable by a web-based computer application. For objects including text information, the color property for the text is automatically determined, based on the translated color object, to achieve a high contrast between the background color and the foreground or text color.

Java And Native Application Window Integration

US Patent:
6675371, Jan 6, 2004
Filed:
Apr 30, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/303799
Inventors:
Justin E. York - Houston TX
Geoffery A. Schunicht - Spring TX
Assignee:
Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P. - Houston TX
International Classification:
G06F 944
US Classification:
717114, 717118, 717119, 709100
Abstract:
A system for adding functionality to a graphical user interface of a non-Java based, or native, application, using the Java programming language is provided. A Java window, or dialog, is configured to be accessible by a native application. While the native application is executed in a first thread, a Java dialog is launched in a second thread. Execution of the native application in the first thread is then continued. The Java dialog next calls the native application and registers itself with the native application. Also, the native code can control the Java dialog like other dialogs supported by the native code. A command for a Java dialog from a native application is routed to an invisible dialog. The invisible dialog passes that command to the Java dialog through a native interface connection. A very seamless integration between the Java and native code thus occurs.

Intelligent Management Module Application Programming Interface With Utility Objects

US Patent:
6779027, Aug 17, 2004
Filed:
Apr 30, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/303308
Inventors:
Geoffery A. Schunicht - Spring TX
Justin E. York - Spring TX
Assignee:
Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P. - Houston TX
International Classification:
G06F 1516
US Classification:
709223, 709246, 345736, 345744, 370254, 370465, 719319, 719328
Abstract:
An intelligent management module application programming interface that facilitates use of network management software in multiple operating environments is provided. The intelligent API provides an interface that facilitates development of cross-platform software to support managed devices on a network. The intelligent API permits such software to work in a variety of operating environments with minimal code per device. The interface additionally provides features which minimize the development effort needed before a new device is supported by the management module. Features include a mechanism for engaging an SNMP session in all operating environments supported by the network management software. Additionally, a mechanism for easily adding buttons, with behavior dependent on the particular operating environment, to a user interface, as well as providing a help button for all environments, is provided. The intelligent management module API additionally provides several mechanisms to simplify the process of dynamically creating and updating graphical images representative of the managed device onto a user interface, resulting in a real-time view of the device by the user.

Method And Apparatus For Automatic Monitoring Of Simple Network Management Protocol Manageable Devices

US Patent:
6832247, Dec 14, 2004
Filed:
Jun 15, 1998
Appl. No.:
09/098027
Inventors:
Charles W. Cochran - Houston TX
Justin E. York - Houston TX
Geoffery A. Schunicht - Spring TX
Peter A. Hansen - Houston TX
Assignee:
Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P. - Houston TX
International Classification:
G06F 15173
US Classification:
709223, 709222, 709224, 705 9
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for automatically monitoring Simple Network Manageable Devices. A processor accesses a memory storage device to retrieve a device definition file and an interface definition file associated with each interface referenced in the device definition file. The processor creates a Device-Type-Specific Formula-Monitor Definitions (DTSFMD) data structure based on information contained within the device definition file and the interface definition files and stores the DTSFMD data structure in the storage device. The processor accesses a communication network to retrieve information used to identify the types of devices and associated interfaces located within the communication network. Based on the retrieved information, the devices are identified as a router, a switch, a repeater or a device for which no monitoring is to occur. Based on the retrieved information and requirements established in the DTSFMD, the processor determines which interfaces are to be monitored and how they are to be monitored and automatically performs monitoring to generate data for graphical displays and the setting and clearing alarms.

Automatic Notification Rule Definition For A Network Management System

US Patent:
7552211, Jun 23, 2009
Filed:
Dec 10, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/315749
Inventors:
Peter A. Hansen - Cypress TX, US
Justin E. York - Spring TX, US
Assignee:
Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P. - Houston TX
International Classification:
G06F 15/173
US Classification:
709224, 709223, 709226, 709232, 709203
Abstract:
A network management application provides notification of events on network devices using prepopulated notification rules. The notification rule is prepopulated by the network management application using conditions that represent the present state of the device being monitored. An associated notification action is executed when an event on a network device satisfies the conditions of the prepopulated notification rule. The notification action can be tested without actually creating a set of conditions for a device that satisfies the conditions of the notification rule.

Native File To Shared Resource Locator Naming

US Patent:
7865504, Jan 4, 2011
Filed:
Jul 9, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/774963
Inventors:
Justin E. York - Cypress TX, US
Tony Isaac - Spring TX, US
Assignee:
SimDesk Technologies, Inc. - Houston TX
International Classification:
G06F 7/76
US Classification:
707716
Abstract:
File and folder names are converted between their native format and a shared resource locator format. To send information on a file or folder, the file or folder name is parsed into various components and those components are converted to components in the shared resource locator. Sufficient information is provided in the shared resource locator to allow receiving software to develop the proper full native file or folder name, irrelevant of the receiving system, be it having different native formats, different drive letters and the like. A user need only click on a file or folder and a shared resource locator string is provided for pasting into emails or documents. Clicking on a shared resource locator results in the operating system automatically opening the file or folder from its shared location without manual conversions and the like.

Method And Apparatus For Sending Address In The Message For An E-Mail Notification Action To Facilitate Remote Management Of Network Devices

US Patent:
2003012, Jun 26, 2003
Filed:
Feb 7, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/360893
Inventors:
Justin York - Houston TX, US
Assignee:
COMPAQ COMPUTER CORPORATION
International Classification:
G06F015/173
G06F015/16
US Classification:
709/224000, 709/206000
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for sending notifications to a user of a network management system concerning the status of a particular network device such as an SNMP manageable device. The. notification rules are preconfigured and assigned to a corresponding notification action such as an e-mail notification. The user may specify a variety of information to be included in the e-mail notification including the URL address of the network device. Once the notification actions are configured, the communications network is monitored by a management console and the state of each device is compared to the notification rules. When a notification rule is satisfied, the pre-configured e-mail notification is sent to the user. The URL for the device which sent the e-mail notification is placed in the body of the e-mail message so that the user, while reading the e-mail with an HTTP compliant URL-aware mail tool, may click on the URL to access the web-based management system for the device. Then the user can obtain current information concerning the device even though the user may be in a remote location.
