Abstract:
A cavity sealing article comprises (a) a planar support member; and (b) a sealing member comprising a foamable polymer surrounding and in intimate contact with the support member in the plane of the support member, the sealing member comprising at least two layers in intimate contact in the plane of the support member, the outermost of the layers comprising an uncrosslinked foamable polymer, and an inner layer comprising a crosslinked foamable polymer.

Barrier Material For Gel Sealant-Cable Jacket Interface

US Patent:
4889717, Dec 26, 1989
Filed:
Apr 21, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/184469
Inventors:
Anne E. Covington - Apex NC
Thomas A. Hunter - Cary NC
Keith Dawes - Raleigh NC
Assignee:
Raychem Corporation - Menlo Park CA
International Classification:
B32B 326
US Classification:
4283044
Abstract:
This invention provides a foam barrier which prevents substantial migration of plasticizer from a plasticized polymeric article, such as a PVC cable jacket, into a gel sealing material in contact with the article and prevents substantial migration of oil from the gel material into the article while not significantly interfering with the sealing contact between the gel material and the surface of the article.

Polyurea Gel Compositions And Articles Therefrom

US Patent:
5104930, Apr 14, 1992
Filed:
Feb 25, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/660770
Inventors:
James A. Rinde - Fremont CA
Frank W. Mercer - Belmont CA
Keith Dawes - Raleigh NC
Rudolf R. Bukownik - Palo Alto CA
Assignee:
Raychem Corporation - Menlo Park CA
International Classification:
C08L 7502
US Classification:
524871
Abstract:
Crosslinkable gel compositions cure rapidly to provide gel compositions which possess superior combinations of chemical and physical properties and aging resistance. These compositions are particularly useful for environmentally protecting substrates, especially electrical conductors, connectors, and splices and for sealing around jacketed cables, for example where they enter splice cases.

Splice Closure System

US Patent:
4769513, Sep 6, 1988
Filed:
Jul 9, 1987
Appl. No.:
7/071553
Inventors:
Glen W. Ragland - Dunwoody GA
Bobby Simonton - Carrollton GA
Phillip J. Snoke - Atlanta GA
Kenneth D. Timmerman - Smyena GA
Christian A. M. Debbaut - Cary NC
Keith Dawes - Raleigh NC
Whit G. Halstead - Raleigh NC
Lowell Koht - Cary NC
Assignee:
Raychem Corporation - Menlo Park CA
International Classification:
H02G 1508
US Classification:
174 23R
Abstract:
There is disclosed a cable closure which includes a central closure body and a pair of end caps preferably made from structural foam situated at each end of the closure body. There is also disclosed a cable block which includes void filling material selectively inserted among the insulated conductors of the cable and a directional control device which consists of a conduit also selectively inserted among the insulated conductors of the cable. Together the cable closure, cable block and directional control device make up the splice closure system. There may also be provided a heat recoverable seal adhesively attached to the cable closure in which case there will also be provided means for preventing milk-off of the seal from the cable closure. finally, there is disclosed a method for forming the cable block.

Compatibilized Fluoroplastic Blends

US Patent:
5741855, Apr 21, 1998
Filed:
Jun 10, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/660998
Inventors:
Bruce Kaduk - Mountain View CA
Keith Dawes - San Mateo CA
Awtar Singh - Milpitas CA
Jing Tian - San Mateo CA
Assignee:
Raychem Corporation - Menlo Park CA
International Classification:
C08L 2712
C08L 2716
C08L 2718
US Classification:
525 88
Abstract:
A composition comprises a blend of (a) a first crystalline fluoroplastic which is an ethylene-tetrafluoroethylene copolymer, in an amount between 30 and 70 weight %; (b) a second crystalline fluoroplastic which is a terpolymer of tetrafluoroethylene, hexafluoropropylene, and vinylidene fluoride, in an amount between 30 and 65 weight %; and (c) a fluorinated thermoplastic elastomer which is a block copolymer having at least one elastomeric segment comprising tetrafluoroethylene, vinylidene fluoride, and hexafluoropropylene repeat units in a mole ratio 45-90:5-50:0-35 and at least one nonelastomeric segment comprising tetrafluoroethylene and ethylene repeat units, in an amount between 5 and 25 weight %. The fluorinated thermoplastic elastomer acts as a compatibilizer for the two fluoroplastics. The composition exhibits improved flexibility, tensile strength, and/or elongation.

Environmental Antioxidant Wrap/Enclosure For An Aerial Enclosure

US Patent:
5456959, Oct 10, 1995
Filed:
Nov 2, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/146776

The sealing article is especially adapted for forming a seal between a plurality of substrates and a bounded opening through which the plurality of substrates pass.

Crossbox Protection Cap

US Patent:
5083940, Jan 28, 1992
Filed:
Nov 4, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/267065
Inventors:
Bruce Larson - Livonia MI

Robert S. Dubrow - San Carlos CA
Assignee:
Raychem Corporation - Menlo Park CA
International Classification:
H01R 1352
US Classification:
439521
Abstract:
A gel and container means capable of protecting a binding post and drop wire from moisture and corrosion is provided which will effectively prevent the exposure of the drop wire and binding post cap and screw from moisture and corrosive atmospheres without the need for a pressure maintaining means other than the combination of the cap and gel. The pressure of the gel is maintained on the binding post through the extraction of plasticizers from the container means causing a shrinkage.
