H04L 27/12
H04L 27/20
US Classification:
375295, 375298, 375308
Abstract:
In a system for modulating an RF carrier, the RF carrier is fed through a lowpass filter and phase shifted approximately −90 degrees. The RF carrier is also fed through a high pass filter and phase shifted approximately +90 degrees. A switch connected to the output of the lowpass filter and connected to the output of the highpass filter, selects and outputs either the −90 degree phase shifted carrier output from the lowpass filter or the +90 degree phase shifted carrier output from the highpass filter depending on a switching state determined by data bit information received at a data port to produce a BPSK modulated RF carrier. Two such BPSK modulators may be combined using lowpass and highpass filters to form a QPSK modulator. Two such QPSK modulators may be combined with an attenuator to form a QAM modulator.

Wireless Rf Link For Uncompressed Transmission Of Hdtv Signals

US Patent:
7139319, Nov 21, 2006
Filed:
Apr 3, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/406931
Inventors:
Kurt W. Loheit - Rolling Hills Estates CA, US
William A. Salter - Torrance CA, US
Assignee:
The Boeing Company - Chicago IL
International Classification:
H04L 27/00
US Classification:
375259, 375279, 375308, 375329, 348553, 348723, 348725
Abstract:
A method for transmitting and receiving an uncompressed HDTV signal over a wireless RF link includes steps of: providing a clock signal synchronized to the uncompressed HDTV signal; and providing a stream of regenerated data from the uncompressed HDTV signal, with the clock signal synchronized to the stream of regenerated data. The clock signal is then used for demultiplexing the stream of regenerated data into an I data stream and a Q data stream. The method further includes steps of: modulating a carrier with the I data stream and the Q data stream; transmitting the carrier over the wireless RF link; demodulating the carrier so that the I data stream and the Q data stream are recovered; multiplexing the I data stream and the Q data stream into a single stream of HDTV data; and recovering the uncompressed HDTV signal from the single stream of HDTV data.

Qpsk And 16 Qam Self-Generating Synchronous Direct Downconversion Demodulator

US Patent:
2003019, Oct 16, 2003
Filed:
Apr 15, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/123574
Inventors:
Kurt Loheit - Rolling Hills Estates CA, US
James Cooper - Torrance CA, US
Leah Burk - Redondo Beach CA, US
Suzanne Kubasek - El Segundo CA, US
Assignee:
The Boeing Company - Seattle WA
International Classification:
H03D003/00
US Classification:
329/304000
Abstract:
A system for recovering and demodulating a carrier includes a carrier recovery loop and a data detector. The carrier recovery loop receives the carrier as an input and produces a recovered carrier at a frequency approximately equal to that of the carrier. The carrier recovery loop includes a downconverting mixer, a ×5 multiplier, a ×4 multiplier, and a phase locked loop. The downconverting mixer receives the carrier input, and the phase locked loop provides a VCO reference frequency through the ×5 multiplier to the downconverting mixer, which provides a frequency shifted signal. The frequency shifted signal is passed through the ×4 multiplier as input to the phase locked loop. The data detector receives the carrier and the recovered carrier as inputs and uses the recovered carrier to demodulate the carrier and detect I channel data and Q channel data.

Apparatus For Wireless Rf Transmission Of Uncompressed Hdtv Signal

US Patent:
2004019, Oct 7, 2004
Filed:
Apr 3, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/408002
Inventors:
Kurt Loheit - Rolling Hills Estates CA, US
William Salter - Torrance CA, US
Assignee:
The Boeing Company - Seattle WA
International Classification:
H04N005/455
H04N011/12
US Classification:
348/492000, 348/726000
Abstract:
A system for transmitting and receiving an uncompressed HDTV signal over a wireless RF link includes a clock that provides a clock signal synchronized to the uncompressed HDTV signal and a data regeneration module connected to the clock, which provides a stream of regenerated data from the uncompressed HDTV signal. A demultiplexer demultiplexes the stream of regenerated data, using the clock signal, into an I data stream and a Q data stream. A modulator connected to the demultiplexer modulates a carrier with the I data stream and the Q data stream. A demodulator receives the carrier and demodulates the carrier so that the I data stream and the Q data stream are recovered. A multiplexer connected to the demodulator multiplexes the I data stream and the Q data stream into a single stream of HDTV data so that the uncompressed HDTV signal is recovered.

High Efficiency Electro-Optic Modulator

US Patent:
2022039, Dec 8, 2022
Filed:
Dec 22, 2021
Appl. No.:
17/645535
Inventors:
- Chicago IL, US
Kurt W. Loheit - Rolling Hills Estates CA, US
International Classification:
G02F 1/03
G02F 1/035
Abstract:
A method includes receiving light at a light input of an electro-optic modulator device. The method includes directing the light via the light input into optical waveguides in an optical layer of an electro-optic modulator of the electro-optic modulator device. The method includes receiving a signal at an electric input of the electro-optic modulator device. The electric input is associated with an input impedance. The method includes providing the signal to an electrode structure of the electro-optic modulator. The electrode structure generates an electrical field based on the signal. The electric field modulates light in the optical waveguides to produce modulated light based on the signal. The electrode structure includes a constant impedance section associated with a second impedance less than the input impedance. The method also includes providing the modulated light based on the signal from the optical layer to one or more output optic fibers.
