A system and method for reducing power consumption and interference in a communications system that has multiple base radios. A base radio controller assigns priorities to the base radios in the system. When higher priority base radios have excess capacity, intracell handovers are used to consolidate communications from lower priority base radios to higher priority base radios. After transferring communications to higher priority base radios, the lower priority base radios can attenuate or shut off their transmitted signal in order to reduce or eliminate all the interference they cause other base stations in the system, and reduce transmission power requirements.

A method and system for private wireless network communications is provided. A private wireless network controller is coupled to a Private Branch Exchange (PBX), a private base transceiver station, and a Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). The private base transceiver station is coupled to a wireless macro network. The private wireless network controller and private base transceiver station allow connection of interconnect and dispatch wireless calls, which originate on the private wireless network, to other mobile stations on the private wireless network, to terminals connected to the PBX, to mobile stations on wireless macro networks, and to terminals coupled to the PSTN.

A wireless communication system is disclosed, comprising a network; a plurality of base stations coupled to the network; and an operations and management center comprising a network interface coupled to the network, and a processor to: generate a new frequency plan for the plurality of base stations; compare the new frequency plan with a current frequency plan; determine which parameters of which base stations of the plurality of base stations require modification; and create and send a new configuration file incorporating the new frequency plan to the base stations whose parameters require modification in order to modify the parameters, wherein the new configuration file is sent to the base stations by way of the network interface.
