Statement of Nursing Philosophy: I believe nursing has the power to do great good through acts of compassion and service in ordinary ways. Through listening • empowering • respecting • and guiding people extraordinary accomplishments are made. Some principles of my philosophy for nursing practice include: Every human being has the fundamental right to health as determined by that individual. With guidance from nurses • patients dictate the direction of care needed. Each individual has unique and meaningful experiences associated with living • dying • and various stages in between. People who are suffering or are in need deserve compassionate and informed nursing care and comfort. Nursing should not be affected by social trends and financial power. Nursing is an agent of personal trust. Through scientific caring and skill • nursing provides an essential service tending to the health of people with dignity and respect. Nursing is a professional discipline with a foundation of ethical codes to affect health and healing. Nurses have a responsibility to maintain their own self awareness and understanding in order to help patients navigate their health care choices. Nursing is a shared gift between the patient and nurse and is based on a therapeutic partnership. This not only includes the nurse giving of her/himself to the patient • but it also requires the nurse to become a partner in shared moments of change and vulnerability. Nursing captivates all of our dearest and most intimate aspects of who we are • both for the patient and nurse • and is based on mutual respect for this shared experience. Nursing helps to restore health at the greatest level possible • while offering new ways of caring for ones self within the spectrum of life events and limitations. Health is not necessarily a cure • but is an integrated balance of the mind • body • and spirit. In the wake of situational turmoil • true nursing care always helps to open the door for more understanding of ones life • and health in particular • and includes physical • mental • and spiritual trials. Compassionate nursing care • in its most profound moments • empowers and offers new possibility to people • serving the shared humanity. Supplemental Information. Some of my transferable skills include: Team leader • team builder • motivator • creative innovator Staff supervision State and national volunteer and volunteer recruiter Health care consultant Business plan development for hospice care Program development Policies • guidelines • educational material development and evaluation Communication with individuals and groups of all sizes • privately and in the community Unencumbered Michigan RN and APN license which can be transferred to New Mexico Creation of permanent photographic and written tributes and displays for cultural aspects of community health care Media point-person: radio • print Grant writing Creating Electronic Medical System Masters degree; 35 years of community service care Community health and medical and surgical experience Excellent assessment skills and individual planning Mentor • educator for all levels of team and in higher education Word processing • Excel data base • Power Point presentation • Photoshop
