Bowtie Monopole Antenna And Communication Device Using Same

US Patent:
7304613, Dec 4, 2007
Filed:
Jun 21, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/872860
Inventors:
Adam R. Aron - Ft. Lauderdale FL, US
Paul M. Greco - Parkland FL, US
Jan-Ove U. Mattsson - Plantation FL, US
Lorenzo Ponce De Leon - Lake Worth FL, US
Assignee:
Motorola, Inc. - Schaumburg IL
International Classification:
H01Q 1/24
US Classification:
343702, 343895
Abstract:
A bowtie monopole antenna is fabricated of a sheet metal radiating body that is triangular shaped, and having a longitudinal dimension and axis () and a width (). One corner of the radiating body is tapered to form a feed point (). The length dimension determines the antenna's lowest resonance frequency while the taper created by the width determines the highest point of resonance. For using the bowtie monopole antenna in a communication device, the radiating body () is folded or wrapped around towards itself To facilitate the folding or wrapping a mounting substrate () is used. The substrate may be provided with retaining features () to capture the antenna assembly within the communication device.

Portable Communication Device For Supporting Multiple Communication Modes Over A Common Changeable Antenna Structure

US Patent:
2005024, Nov 3, 2005
Filed:
Apr 29, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/837321
Inventors:
Alejandro Candal - Davie FL, US
David Minasi - Ft. Lauderdale FL, US
Lorenzo Ponce De Leon - Lake Worth FL, US
International Classification:
H04K003/00
US Classification:
455347000, 455348000
Abstract:
A portable communication device includes a first communication subsystem () and a second communication subsystem (). The two communication subsystems operate in different frequency bands and use a common antenna structure. The antenna structure includes a fixed antenna element () and a retractable antenna () that may be electrically coupled to the fixed antenna element when moved to a fully extended position. The retractable antenna changes the impedance characteristics of the antenna structure substantially at the frequency used by the second communication subsystem, so a matching network () is switched in or out of the path between the second communication subsystem and the diplexer. A position detecting circuit () and switch controller () control operating of the matching network () depending on the position of the retractable antenna.

Antenna Flip Assembly

US Patent:
2006028, Dec 14, 2006
Filed:
May 24, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/136151
Inventors:
Alejandro Candal - Davie FL, US
Lorenzo Ponce De Leon - Lake Worth FL, US
International Classification:
H04M 1/00
US Classification:
455575700
Abstract:
An assembly () includes a base assembly (), a first flip assembly () hingeably coupled to the base assembly, a second flip assembly () hingeably coupled to the first flip assembly, an antenna () carried by the second flip assembly, and a communication device () coupled to the antenna.

Jan-Ove Mattsson - Plantation FL, US
Lorenzo Ponce De Leon - Lake Worth FL, US
International Classification:
H04M 1/00
US Classification:
455575700
Abstract:
A wireless communication device () is provided, the wireless communication device () can include at least one antenna (), the antenna () positioned beneath the face plate () and base plate () of a user interface () of the wireless communication device () in which the antenna () can be configured to communicate with a signal source.

Proximity-Coupled Folded-J Antenna

US Patent:
2007010, May 17, 2007
Filed:
Nov 14, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/273973
Inventors:
Stanislav Licul - Plantation FL, US
Pha Nguyen - Lake Worth FL, US
Lorenzo Ponce De Leon - Lake Worth FL, US
Assignee:
MOTOROLA, INC. - SCHAUMBURG IL
International Classification:
H01Q 1/24
US Classification:
343702000, 3437000MS
Abstract:
A Proximity Coupled-Folded-J Antenna PC-FJA () includes a ground plane (), first resonant element () with a “J” shape that resonates at a first radio frequency, a second resonant element () positioned within the “J” shape and that resonates at a second radio frequency, and a third resonant element () with a portion that is substantially parallel to and removed from the plane of the “J” shape and that resonates at a third radio frequency. The PC-FJA () has a fourth resonant element () with a loop () in a plane perpendicular to and removed from the plane of the “J” shape. The fourth resonant element () resonates at a fourth radio frequency. These elements are ohmically coupled to a connection arm (). The ground plane () is removed from PC-FJA () and is perpendicular to the plane of the “J” shape.

High Performance Retractable Half-Wave Antenna

US Patent:
2007012, May 31, 2007
Filed:
Nov 30, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/290195
Inventors:
Alejandro Candal - Davie FL, US
Julio Castaneda - Coral Springs FL, US
Jose Gonzalez - Pembroke Pines FL, US
Lorenzo Ponce De Leon - Lake Worth FL, US
Francis Staszesky - Fort Lauderdale FL, US
International Classification:
H01Q 1/24
H01Q 1/36
US Classification:
343702000, 343895000
Abstract:
An antenna () that includes a first helical radiator () and a second helical radiator () positioned substantially co-linear with the first helical radiator. The first helical radiator can be communicatively linked to a signal source (). The second helical radiator can be moveable between a first position wherein the second helical radiator is substantially adjacent to the first helical radiator and a second position wherein the second helical radiator is distal from the first helical radiator. The first helical radiator and the second helical radiator can cooperate to transmit and/or receive electromagnetic signals using an electrical connection and/or electromagnetic coupling. The electromagnetic coupling can primarily include capacitive coupling. The antenna also can include an impedance tuning member () which electromagnetically couples to the first helical radiator and/or the second helical radiator.
