Providing Contextual Information Automatically

US Patent:
2007007, Mar 29, 2007
Filed:
Sep 7, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/470827
Inventors:
Elena Apreutesei - Redmond WA, US
Edward Simnett - Seattle WA, US
Eran Shtiegman - Redmond WA, US
Frank Shao - Kenmore WA, US
Sahib Aulakh - Bellevue WA, US
Marc Boyer - Seattle WA, US

Assignee:
Microsoft Corporation - Redmond WA
International Classification:
H04M 11/00
US Classification:
379093010
Abstract:
A facility is described for providing contextual information automatically. In various embodiments, the facility receives an indication to start a conversation, automatically determines an identification for an item indicated by the indication, encodes the identification in a message, and sends the message so that a recipient of the message can locate the item. The facility can include a responder component and an initiator component. The initiator component can receive an identification for contextual information and an identification of the responder, initiate a conversation with the responder's computing device, and automatically encode the received indication of the contextual information in a message that it sends to the responder component so that the responder component can cause a link to the contextual information to be provided that, when selected, causes an application executing on the responder's computing device to load the contextual information. In various embodiments, the facility receives a message containing an indication of contextual information, decodes the indication to determine an identifier for the contextual information, and provides a command for loading the contextual information.

Embedding Rich Content In Real-Time Communications

US Patent:
2008013, Jun 5, 2008
Filed:
Dec 4, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/566650
Inventors:
Rajesh Ramanathan - Redmond WA, US
Eran Shtiegman - Redmond WA, US
Parag Samdadiya - Bellevue WA, US
Marc Boyer - Seattle WA, US
Assignee:
Microsoft Corporation - Redmond WA
International Classification:
G06F 15/16
G06F 13/00
US Classification:
709206, 719328
Abstract:
A real-time communication system receives rich application content from a user. The real-time communication system detects that the user wants to send a message containing the application content, and determines the application that produced the content. For example, if the content was pasted using the operating system clipboard, then the pasted content may contain information indicating the application that produced it. Then the real-time communication system creates a real-time communication containing the application content and identifying the application that produced the content. For example, the real-time communication may be structured as XML that contains the application content and an application identifier. Finally, the real-time communication system sends the real-time communication to the receiving participant.

Providing Modified Notifications When Inferring A User Might Not Want To Be Notified

US Patent:
2008014, Jun 19, 2008
Filed:
Nov 1, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/555666
Inventors:
Rajesh Ramanathan - Redmond WA, US
Eran Shtiegman - Redmond WA, US
Ankur Chavda - Seattle WA, US
Justin M. Maguire - Seattle WA, US

Assignee:
Microsoft Corporation - Redmond WA
International Classification:
G06F 3/00
US Classification:
715700
Abstract:
A notification system, upon receiving an indication of an event, determines whether the user has requested to suppress event notifications. When the user has requested to suppress event notifications, the notification system suppresses the event notification by not notifying the user of the event. When the user has not requested to suppress event notifications, the notification system infers whether the user wants to suppress event notifications. When the notification system infers that the user does not want to suppress event notifications, the notification system provides to the user a normal event notification. When the notification system infers that the user does want to suppress event notifications, the notification system provides to the user a modified event notification.

Conference Call Monitoring With Automatic Reconnect

US Patent:
2012027, Nov 1, 2012
Filed:
Apr 27, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/094848

Technologies are described herein for monitoring a participant's connection to a conference and automatically reconnecting the participant if the participant is inadvertently disconnected. A conference proxy module receives a request from a participant identifying a conference to join and an endpoint of the participant to connect to the conference. Upon receiving the request, the conference proxy module joins the conference on behalf of the participant and instructs the conferencing service to establish a connection with the identified endpoint. The conference proxy module then monitors the status of the connection with the participant's endpoint, and if the endpoint is unintentionally disconnected, the conference proxy module instructs the conferencing service to reconnect the endpoint to the conference.
