Method And Apparatus For Determining The Position Of A Shift Rail

US Patent:
6382040, May 7, 2002
Filed:
May 27, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/580055
Inventors:
Mark Diangelo - Waterford MI
Edmond R. League - Farmington Hills MI
Assignee:
Ford Global Technologies, Inc. - Dearborn MI
International Classification:
F16H 5900
US Classification:
74335
Abstract:
A method and an assembly for determining the axial and rotational position of a shift member The assembly includes a pair of substantially identical and signal producing sensors which are respectively coupled to first and second members The member is made to include projections which respectively engage members when the member is respectively moved in an axial and rotational manner. In this manner, sensors produce signals which respectively indicate the amount by which the shift rail member has been moved in an axial and a rotational manner and these signals are used to compute the current axial and rotational position of the shift rail member.
