Oct 30, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/261182
Inventors:
Michael Kent DeJonge - Caledonia MI, US
Joel Kenneth Klooster - Grand Rapids MI, US
Assignee:
GE Aviation Systems, LLC - Grand Rapids MI
International Classification:
G01C 21/10
US Classification:
701465, 701467, 701 3
Abstract:
A method and system for a required time of arrival (RTA) performance graphic display is provided. The system includes a processor programmed to receive a required time of arrival and a first visual display communicatively coupled to the processor. The first visual display includes an RTA graphic having a dial substantially symmetric about an axis, a first marker indicative of a current estimated time of arrival (ETA) at a predetermined waypoint, a second marker indicative of a value of the RTA relative to the current ETA value and a selected RTA time tolerance value, a first indication representing a first time the vehicle can attain the predetermined waypoint, a second indication representing a last time the vehicle can attain the predetermined waypoint, a third indication representing the uncertainty of the ETA in an early arrival direction, and a fourth indication representing the uncertainty of the ETA in a late arrival direction.

Dec 11, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/954086
Inventors:
Michael K. DeJonge - Caledonia MI, US
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
G08B 23/00
G08B 21/00
G06F 17/00
G01C 23/00
G01C 21/00
US Classification:
701 15, 701100, 701120, 701409, 701300, 244 1 N, 244 76 R, 73179, 340945, 340964
Abstract:
A method of producing a variable thrust cutback of an aircraft during aircraft departure is provided. The method includes the steps of storing expected sound exposure levels for an aircraft in memory, and storing a sound exposure level limit for a navigation flight in memory. The method also includes the steps of determining aircraft altitude and determining aircraft airspeed. The method further includes the steps of computing an engine thrust value that complies with the sound exposure level limit based on the altitude, airspeed and the sound exposure levels, and outputting the computed engine thrust value for use in controlling the aircraft during departure.

Flight Management System For Generating Variable Thrust Cutback During Aircraft Departure

US Patent:
2009013, May 21, 2009
Filed:
Dec 11, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/954056
Inventors:
Michael K. DeJonge - Caledonia MI, US
International Classification:
G06G 7/70
US Classification:
701 15
Abstract:
A flight management system is provided for generating a variable thrust cutback during aircraft departure. The flight management system includes memory storing a sound exposure level limit for a navigation flight and storing expected sound exposure levels for an aircraft, and one or more inputs for receiving sensed aircraft variables including altitude and airspeed. The system also includes a processor for processing the sensed altitude and airspeed and stored sound exposure levels. The processor further computes an engine thrust value that complies with the sound exposure level limit based on the altitude, airspeed and the sound exposure levels for controlling aircraft throttle during departure.

Required Time Of Arrival (Rta) Control System

US Patent:
5121325, Jun 9, 1992
Filed:
Jul 3, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/726127
Inventors:
Michael K. DeJonge - Kentwood MI
Assignee:
Smiths Industries Aerospace & Defense Systems, Inc. - Grand Rapids MI
International Classification:
G06F 1550
US Classification:
364442
Abstract:
A required time of arrival (RTA) control system (200, 220, 240) is disclosed for use with an aircraft on-board computer system (100). The control system (200, 220, 240) is adapted to provide data for controlling aircraft flight in a manner so as to meet time of arrival constraints at selected waypoints. The control system (200, 220, 240) includes means (212) for determining a time error between an estimated time of arrival and a designated RTA. A cost index predictor (216) is utilized to determine an estimated cost index parameter for meeting time of arrival constraints, while maintaining relative minimum fuel consumption. A flight profile predictor (202) is adapted to generate requisite target air speed data based on the estimated cost index parameter. In one embodiment, the system (240) includes determination of a time window based on maximum and minimum permissible cost index and speed limiting parameters. Dead-band control of the time error is also provided for maintaining stability and reducing throttle activity.

Flight Performance Data Computer System

US Patent:
4312041, Jan 19, 1982
Filed:
Feb 22, 1978
Appl. No.:
5/880219
Inventors:
Michael K. DeJonge - Wyoming MI
Assignee:
Lear Siegler, Inc. - Santa Monica CA
International Classification:
G06F 1550
US Classification:
364442
Abstract:
A flight performance data system comprises a control and display unit operably connected to a computer. The computer has input means responsive to real air mass parameters and real aircraft dynamic measurements. The computer is programmed to respond to the incoming signals and automatically generate various output signals representing flight profile data. A mode selector is operably connected to the computer to direct the computer in different modes to determine the different flight profile data for the climb, cruise, descent and other modes of the aircraft. For various modes, a different flight schedule can be determined corresponding to the most fuel efficient flight, a long-range cruise flight, or the most economical flight. In addition, the computer produces output signals corresponding to the maximum rate of climb and the maximum rate of descent in the climb and descent modes, respectively. A display screen selectively displays the desired flight profile data.

Method And System For Generating Airport Surface Map Graphics In Aircraft Cockpit Displays

US Patent:
2016005, Feb 25, 2016
Filed:
Aug 25, 2014
Appl. No.:
14/467090
Inventors:
- Grand Rapids MI, US
Michael Kent DeJonge - Caledonia MI, US
International Classification:
G06T 17/20
G06T 3/40
Abstract:
A method of reducing the size of data representing an image in a graphical display wherein the data comprises triangle strings representing polygons that form the image, includes steps to determine a size of a pixel in the image; compare the size of a pixel in the image to a narrowest dimension of a polygon that encompasses the pixel and determine a number of triangles in a triangle string that represents the polygon. If the narrowest dimension of the polygon is larger than the image size, reducing the number of triangles in the triangle string using triangle decimation and if the polygon is similar to the image size, leaving the number of triangles in the triangle string unchanged.
