Adjustable Balancing Board

US Patent:
6945920, Sep 20, 2005
Filed:
Sep 22, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/668036
Inventors:
Michael C. Kemery - Portland OR, US
Tobin N. Guild - Portland OR, US
Assignee:
Nike International Ltd. - Beaverton OR
International Classification:
A63B022/16
US Classification:
482146, 482147, 482 34
Abstract:
A balancing board allowing for selection of a desired degree of stability is disclosed. The balancing board has a platform and a hemispherical fulcrum slidably mounted to platform and bifurcated into a pair of pivot members. Each pivot member is independently positionable along an underside of the platform opposite of an engagement surface upon which a user positions themselves to practice balancing training techniques. When the pivot members are slid together, the balancing board is freely pivotable about any axis in the plane of the surface on which the pivot members are resting. Conversely, when the pivot members are spaced apart from each other, the balancing board resists pivoting in a direction aligned with the axis along which the pivot members are slidable.

Inflatable Structure And Method Of Manufacture

US Patent:
7156787, Jan 2, 2007
Filed:
Dec 23, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/744239
Inventors:
Michael Kemery - Portland OR, US
Tobin Nathaniel Guild - Beaverton OR, US
Zvi Rapaport - Portland OR, US
Assignee:
Nike, Inc. - Beaverton OR
International Classification:
A63B 26/00
US Classification:
482140, 482907, 482 91
Abstract:
An inflatable structure includes a first side of a first material and a second side of a second material different from the first material. A sidewall connects the first and second sides, and a seam extends around the sidewall joining first and second portions of the sidewall. The first and second portions are secured to one another by thermoforming, and an inflation valve is positioned in the sidewall. The inflatable structure may be formed by heating the first and second sheets of material to a temperature above their glass transition temperature and below their melting point, compressing the first and second sheets of material together in a mold having an opposed pair of cavities such that the valve extends through the seal and is in fluid communication with an interior and exterior of the inflatable structure, and trimming excess material from the periphery of the inflatable structure.

Balancing Object

US Patent:
7169099, Jan 30, 2007
Filed:
Sep 22, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/667952
Inventors:
Michael C. Kemery - Portland OR, US
Tobin N. Guild - Portland OR, US
Assignee:
Nike International Ltd. - Beaverton OR
International Classification:
A63B 22/16
US Classification:
482146, 482 34
Abstract:
One or more balancing objects are provided having an arcuate roof onto which a user may step and a pair of sidewalls to support the roof. The arcuate roof is shaped such that a portion of a user's foot will contact the balancing object when standing on the roof, thereby challenging the user to maintain balance in a more unsteady state than when standing flat-footed. The sidewalls extend downwardly from lateral side regions of the arcuate roof and preferably have a concave profile extending laterally towards one another to provide superior strength to the balancing object when loaded under a user's weight. A frictional overmold may be formed over the arcuate roof to provide a frictional surface preventing a user's footwear from slipping off of the balancing object. Multiple balancing objects may be positioned on a flat, horizontal surface in a variety of orientations such that the user can target certain muscle groups to train for improving balance and proprioception.

Glove With Multi-Element Dorsal Stiffeners

US Patent:
7475433, Jan 13, 2009
Filed:
Jul 27, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/189988
Inventors:
Ryan C. Coulter - Portland OR, US
Michael C. Kemery - Portland OR, US
Cedar Miller - Beaverton OR, US
Assignee:
Nike, Inc. - Beaverton OR
International Classification:
A41D 19/00
US Classification:
2160, 21611, 2162, 2166
Abstract:
A glove includes two “H” shaped stiffening battens on a dorsal side. The battens terminate on a proximal side of the second through fifth fingers, and are formed from a non-rigid material. A one-piece protective panel is attached to the palmar side of the glove. The protective panel covers portions of the wearing hand palm corresponding to the distal ends of the second through fifth metacarpal bones, as well as palmar side portions of the second through fifth digits corresponding to the second through fifth proximal phalanx bones. Flex notch cut-outs in the protective panel correspond to portions of the palmar region which tend to bunch during gripping of a bar or other object and help prevent discomfort during such gripping.

Hand Weight With Contoured Opposing Weight Protrusions

US Patent:
7494452, Feb 24, 2009
Filed:
Oct 14, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/250200
Inventors:
Michael Kemery - Portland OR, US
Ryan C. Coulter - Portland OR, US
Assignee:
Nike, Inc. - Beaverton OR
International Classification:
A63B 21/072
US Classification:
482108, 482106, D21680
Abstract:
A hand weight with a central grip area and contoured opposing weight portions at the ends so as to convey a “Z”-shaped profile. The asymmetry of the hand weight results in a shape that is more open to accommodate a larger range of hand sizes and to more comfortably fit into the hand for a variety of holds. The shape of the end portions also results in an overall shape that is less obstructive of movements since it has a narrower profile when rotated appropriately. One of the ends is configured with a flat section to enable the weight to be positively and stably set on a flat surface and prevent rolling.
