Dimethylamide And Cationic Surfactant Debonding Compositions And The Use Thereof In The Production Of Fluff Pulp

US Patent:
4425186, Jan 10, 1984
Filed:
Mar 24, 1981
Appl. No.:
6/247187
Inventors:
Oscar W. May - Memphis TN
Philip M. Hoekstra - Memphis TN
Assignee:
Buckman Laboratories, Inc. - Memphis TN
International Classification:
D21H 310
US Classification:
162158
Abstract:
A mixture comprising a cationic surfactant and a dimethylamide of a straight chain carbon carboxylic acid containing 12 to 18 carbon atoms is useful in the treatment of cellulose pulp to reduce inter-fiber bonding, thus obtaining a low mechanical strength pulp sheet and having little or no adverse effects upon the hydrophilic properties of said fibers.

Aminophosphonic Acid/Phosphate Mixtures For Controlling Corrosion Of Metal And Inhibiting Calcium Phosphate Precipitation

US Patent:
4671934, Jun 9, 1987
Filed:
Apr 18, 1986
Appl. No.:
6/853612
Inventors:
John P. Terry - Memphis TN
Oscar W. May - Memphis TN
Assignee:
Buckman Laboratories, Inc. - Memphis TN
International Classification:
C23F 1116
C02F 100
C09K 300
US Classification:
422 15
Abstract:
A method of controlling the corrosion of a metal surface in contact with an aqueous system while at the same time preventing the precipitation of potentially scale-forming calcium phosphate. The water in such systems is treated with a combination of a source of orthophosphate ion and a mixture of methylene phosphonic acid derivatives of C. sub. 6 diamines, or the salts thereof. A composition for preventing the precipitation of calcium phosphate containing a mixture of methylene phosphonic acid derivatives of C. sub. 6 diamines or the salts thereof.

Synergistic Compositions Containing Hydroxypropyl Methanethiolsulfonate And Methods Of Using Same

US Patent:
4650808, Mar 17, 1987
Filed:
Mar 28, 1984
Appl. No.:
6/594056
Inventors:
Oscar W. May - Memphis TN
Betty S. Johnson - Bartlett TN
Assignee:
Buckman Laboratories, Inc. - Memphis TN
International Classification:
A01N 4380
US Classification:
514372
Abstract:
Compositions comprising 2-hydroxypropyl methanethiolsulfonate in combination with a mixture of 5-chloro-2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one and 2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one show synergistic results in controlling the growth and proliferation of microorganisms in aqueous systems.

Method For The Deactivation And Neutralization Of Polyolefin Catalysts

US Patent:
4801683, Jan 31, 1989
Filed:
Feb 5, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/152921
Inventors:
Oscar W. May - Memphis TN
Assignee:
Buckman Laboratories International, Inc. - Memphis TN
International Classification:
C08F 602
C08K 338
US Classification:
528485
Abstract:
A method of deactivating active, corrosive catalyst residues in an olefin polymer, and simultaneously neutralizing these corrosive residues. The polymer containing the catalyst residues is contacted with an effective amount of an alkali or alkaline earth salt of perboric acid.
