Systems And Methods Of Pressure Drop Control In Fluid Circuits Through Swirling Flow Mitigation

US Patent:
2012022, Sep 13, 2012
Filed:
Sep 16, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/235125
Inventors:
Philip E.O. Buelow - West Des Moines IA, US
Neal A. Thomson - West Des Moines IA, US
Assignee:
Delavan Inc. - West Des Moines IA
International Classification:
F02C 7/228
B05B 1/14
US Classification:
60747, 239553, 60740
Abstract:
An injector with swirling flow mitigation includes an injector body defining a longitudinal axis. A fluid circuit is defined in the injector body and includes a plurality of flow channels defined in a cylindrical region around the longitudinal axis and being in fluid communication with an outlet orifice for passage of fluids out from the flow channels into a radial direction with respect to the longitudinal axis. A flow splitter is defined in each of the flow channels proximate the outlet orifice. Each flow splitter is configured and adapted to mitigate formation of swirling flow on fluids passing through the outlet orifice from the flow channels.

Repairable Fuel Injector

US Patent:
2017013, May 11, 2017
Filed:
Nov 6, 2015
Appl. No.:
14/935004
Inventors:
- London, GB
Peter J. Schnoebelen - West Des Moines IA, US
Brandon P. Williams - West Des Moines IA, US
Neal Thomson - West Des Moines IA, US
Philip E.O. Buelow - West Des Moines IA, US
David H. Bretz - West Des Moines IA, US
International Classification:
F02C 7/22
Abstract:
A fuel injector for a lean direct injection fuel nozzle has a pilot air swirler which sits radially outboard of a pilot fuel swirler radially outer wall. The air swirler is bounded on its radially outer side by joined wall portions. One wall portion extends axially and another wall portion converges radially. On the radially inwardly facing surface, the wall portions meet to provide a continuing wall surface of the air swirler which transitions from axial extension to radial convergence over a smooth radius. The curvature of this surface broadly mirrors the radially outwardly facing profile of the pilot fuel swirler radially outer wall. The axially extending wall portion is extended axially to form a first part of a join interface. The radially converging portion is extended in a radial direction to provide a second part of the join interface.
